well, it is because parents don't want their children to see it on the web, other than that, the porn star does what they want and they get paid a pretty decent amount. So, my point is that it is more of a close minded opinion other than really being harmful.

Porn is NOT AT ALL, harmful if you're a mature adult. In fact it is necessary and without it many men would became rapists or child molestors.
There are millions of men in this world who do not get any love from a woman and no one accepts them and they have to lead a loveless life, even if they maybe well educated and financially secure. Then their sexual desires remain unfulfilled and suppressed. This makes them go haywire and under such situation they might as well rape a random jogger in the park or start molesting kids, because they need some kind of source of sexual gratification which they just cannot get it anywhere.
For these kinds of men, porn's creation was intended. Porn gives them gratification and releases their frustrations and vents out their suppressed desires via masturbation or similar.
But for some men who are normal and have good lives and lovers, for them it becomes addictive. Addictive in the sense that they masturbate a lot.
It is harmful for NO ONE except those who are immature. Like teenagers should not be allowed to watch porn unless they are strictly 18.
I started viewing x-rated movies at age 14 only, but still i remained normal throughout and was never influenced in harmful way.

It can give the viewer a contorted view of sex or lovemaking. It can give them unrealistic ideas on what is normal, what is reasonable, and how long, big, much sex is usual. The porn stars are not the usual population, and may give the viewer unrealistic expectations of what real life sex is like. Also these people are professional, and with film cuts and camera tricks, they make it seem like guys can come and go again within seconds, which generally isn't true.
In most of the pron the woman's position is one of servitude to the males needs, and not to be endorsed generally.
There are also porn videos which glorifies or attempts to show deprivation as a normal thing.

well, here are some suggestions:
1) if you're a christian, porn is harmful in the sense that it exploits the body. sex is considered a sacred act amongst a married man and woman. porn breaks that sacred act by promoting sex with couples, groups, and other lewd acts
2) porn is pretty addicting. just like food, sex, drugs, or alcohol, porn can cause emotional problems. if one were to watch it continuously, and it becomes an obsession, it can take over your job, paying the bills, and other responsibilities
3) porn can ruin relationships. if you're married or dating, this poses a problem for obvious reasons. a woman (or man) can feel threatened when their significant other watches porn behind their back. they could easily suspect that they are not sexually able to satisfy their partners
those are the ones that come to mind.

I don't think there is anything damaging about children viewing a naked body or a "loving" act of sex. There should be no shame in this. BUT, children are too young to understand the psychological themes behind porn. Porn has infinite "deviations" from the process primarily designed for reproduction. Orgies, S & M, bestiality, etc. For some people these experiences are wonderful, and for some they can be damaging. Being an open-minded ADULT I can see the value in creative expression and exploring individual preferences in love-making. I can also understand what might be appealing to me and what wouldn't. But here we are talking about children, who should have guidance in any tv or internet viewing they do--period. We are here to be their teachers and answer the questions that they do not understand, and if we are not willing to sit next to them and answer those questions that's a clear sign they should not be viewing it. Also, if we are willing to explain but they are not old enough to comprehend the concepts, they should not be viewing it. Modern day society, with the structure of school, employment, etc. promotes far too little intergenerational contact. Children are with mostly children all day, and adults are with mostly adults all day. Our society has suffered and will continue to suffer because of this.

OK, well, while I STRONGLY disagree with the person that said that pornography cause rape (which is a little like saying that women who dress provocatively are asking for it), I think that it does tend to cause problems in relationships, if one partner does not agree to or understand the other partner's fascination with these movies. As far as the exploitation of the actors and actresses in these films, these people are paid HUGE sums of money for their participation, and that kind of negates that whole aspect. There are people who say they are addicted to porn, and in that case, it would negatively affect nearly every aspect of their lives. I hope this helps a little!

Well if men spend all their time watching porn, they might start thinking that women are just sex objects. Then in their day-to-day life, they might start thinking about the women they interact with in this way, they may also start treating them this way. This means women are less likely to be appreciated for their personality, or their intelligence.
Porn could also affect relationships. If the sex you get isn't the same as the sex you see in porn, you may not enjoy it, which, if your partner realises, could affect the relationship.
Porn may also psychologically damage women who need money and so go into it because they don't feel they have any other choice.
Porn could in fact affect men, who could feel bad that they don't "measure up" to the men in porn films. Their self-esteem and ability to perform sexually could suffer as a result.

The first problem is in semantic:
- Erotic is what I like.
- Pornography is what is going over the hedge.
There are as many hedges as there are people. It's all very subjective. From what I have seen of pornography, I can only conclude arrogantly that most people have an extremely bad taste. Is it harmful? Certainly, for some people. Can it be useful? Certainly for some people like handicap who can't have normal sex.

Ah. I guess you are doing a debate. Anything can be harmful when not used in moderation. Alcohol, porn same lesser evils. Its when it takes the place of a meaningful relationship that it becomes a problem, not to mention that kind of job has got to be degrading to men and women alike.
