A team has come back from Nepal with castings of what they say may be footprints of the Yeti, aka abominable snowman. Do you believe that these creatures really exist, or is this going to turn out to be another hoax? Are there really Yetis, and Bigfoot beings in the world?

There are stil a lot of places on this earth that have never been fully explored. The mountains in Tibet are one area. Jungles in South American are still yielding new species, and still havent been completely explored. There are places in the Pacific Northwest . The Grand Canyon wasn;t even fully mapped until a few years ago. Who knows what could hide out there in some of those remote places where no one goes?

These are apparently fresh footprints--there was a pic on MSN home page yesterday of the casting. A team of archaeologists. Credible?

Hard to say. The stories and reports from so many areas of the world are hard to ignore. But biologists generally consider 500 individuals the smallest viable population of any animal, and it's hard to see how that many could exist in all of the different areas they've been reported without being better documented. But I suppose if anywhere could harbor 500 hidden creatures, Tibet would be the place.

I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that they do exist, however, in this day & age of technology & satellites & world travel it must be extremely hard to hide themselves. There can't be just one or two left from the last ice age we seem to be coming to the end of - give or take 10 thousand years. To sustain a community/s there would have to be many 'Yeti' - thousands of generations even if they adapted well to very cold temperatures. Even though Inuit peoples have survived they are in communities. If there are any Yeti in the world I think it will be a very sad day if any are actually caught alive - what do you think would happen then? Probably they would be isolated in a room somewhere & subjected to experiments, food, & temperatures that they could not survive. If I came across one in my travels I would maybe wave (I say wave as it could be perceived at a threat) but I would keep right on going. If they have survived I think we should let them. They may be the only ones who will survive the next ice age. The survival of the fittest - a footprint! Perhaps they hibernate - and then again there are no records of missing game, birds, and if they life in high altitudes no grains. If they are here then they definately avoid us. Don't you think we should leave them alone if they do indeed exist? If it is a hoax then you know there is always a joker out there who needs 15 minutes in the spotlight. Does it really matter?

Seems that the "sightings" and other reports continually tantalize us. The evidence is not conclusive, and the episodes are generally far apart.

Remember, the "Loch Ness Monster" was made up by a dentist in the 1930's - and there are STILL expeiditions to find it.

i remain highly skeptical.

But if the "yeti" does exist - then my money is on a small band of very hardy and persistent Neaderthals!
