One of our family friends today has lost her husband, her job, her house, and essentially everything she owns.

I became clinically depressed after a major mistake I made and was put in a hospital for suicide prevention

My family became extremely dysfunctional and had to be separated after severe fighting

My Friend's house burnt to the ground after an electrical fire

My dad goes to the hospital after ripping the muscles around his heart and lungs causing internal bleeding

Just a few examples....

i think these things may be happening all the time but they seem more heart wrenching because people are exuding happiness around the holidays...you know spreading Christmas cheer. Which will make you feel at odds since you can't relate under sad circumstances. I'm sorry this has happened to you. I hope you'll be able to enjoy your holiday somehow. No one can really say anything that's helpful when you feel sad but maybe one year the opposite will be true for you...you'll win the lottery on Nov 1st....meet your future mate (she a victoria secret model) later that month and be given the nobel peace prize in December for saving the world from global warming.

Peace be with you.

Sometimes things just go like that, it went that way for me & my family for awhile too. You're just in a bad place right now. some years back my husband lost a job he had for many yrs. I was pregnant & had a miscarriage, then my baby sister died unexpectedly. All starting around thanksgiving & ending after new years. I can honestly say though that I'm okay & life although a challange at times is good. & I still love Christmas. Please don't give up,it'll get better. -Best wishes

I think there is more risk during the holidays - the stress of higher bills (like electricity), buying presents (most people can't afford what they spend for Christmas), hurry and bustle (lack of attention to accident prevention), people crammed into heated rooms for parties (sickness spreading, eating junk food). I personally would LOVE to opt out of the holidays for all those reasons. They cause too much stress to families. We need to go back to simpler times in regards to the holidays.

Its not that the worst things happen around this time.. its that this time of year you want only to think of the good things so when bad things happen the date tends to stick with you more like.. ex.. my dog died at Christmas.. Every year come Christmas that's what you think of.. same thing when good happens.. wow i won the drawing at school at Christmas... not my dog died July.. or i won in march.. it just doesn't have the time mark on it like a big holiday.

For one thing, robberies and suicides happen more around the holidays. But, otherwise ,bad things happen all the time but we're more sensitive to it around the holidays. We expect Christmas time to be full of good times but when it's not it hits us much harder. The things you mentioned are all terrible things. I wish you the best of hope and good fortune for the coming holiday.

It just seems that way. In my family, bad things tend to happen around St. Patrick's Day--but you can make patterns like that for just about any time. I can name bad things that happened at other times of the year; I can think of good things that happened then.
Cheer up;something really crappy could happen in February. :-)

there is greater taking place around Christmas so with the better pastime there is larger possibility for blunders. attempt to take it concern-free. fake it. attempt to coach some humility. Then next year make the massive judgements.

I don't know, but I totally agree! My husband can't get a job because his surgery didn't go well and it will be awhile for him to heal properly. Our electric was turned off. My sons are arguing and that makes it hard to get together for holidays. they live in 2 different homes.

Perhaps it's because people get all caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget the true meaning of the holidays.

It is part stress of the season and coincidence. Don't read too much into it, though it sounds like you guys are all having a lousy time!
