you can write her name on a check, but if the store tries to collect from that other britney, you may be in a heap o trouble. copyright laws are nothing compared to the legal penaltys for identity theft, forgery, etc...

Names can't be copyrighted. You can name your kid anything you want. Use of that name to knowingly deceive people into purchasing a cd or something like that would be illegal.

You can't copyright a name or title, but it (and variations) are almost certainly protected by Trademarks.
