Have you collected holiday and Christmas dishes over the years, or have dishes handed down that are a holiday tradition?
I have a part of a set that belonged to my mother, roses with gold trim, that I use for special intimate meals.
For my big meals, I have a set of Amberstone and another set of Marcrest that I have been collecting for 40 years. I have enough to serve about 30 people! If my house would hold them! I usually augment them with Christmas and holly serving pieces, and pressed glass dessert dishes.

That Amberstone is like ironstone, you could use it for frisbies and it wouldn't break. I have never broken a single plate of it, do I don't worry about it. And I can always replace it. It would just give me something to look for in the flea markets. They are just dishes.

I have a set of china. white design on white, with platinum trim. Very pretty . Service for 12. But, since we moved to a smaller place, these dishes and china hutch are buried under other stuff in a little room behind the garage. Can't get to them. No room in the house for them.

So, on holidays, I use my white everyday dishes. No pattern at all. But, with my red holiday table cloth & matching napkins, along with a candle centerpiece, very pretty holiday table.

I do have a triangular shaped dish of clear glass, with a grape design that we use for cranberry sauce. And a long glass dish that originally came from Avon, that had decorative soaps. We use that dish now for olives. Green on one end, black on the other...These are a tradition that go back to the days when my kids were small, and there was no money for fancy things. Worthless dishes, but traditional on our table, which makes them treasures for us.

Christmas is not to fancy paper plates
Not sure why maybe because it is winter and we celebrate Christmas Eve more than Christmas and we play football and sometimes get real muddy and dirt
Easter .............Is differnt.
We always have three tables Adults ,Young Adult and a Table for the little ones.....
The Adult Table and Young Adult gets my good China and Crystal .. Kids table gets the Safeway china and tupperware.
No,I do not care if it gets broke
I like the idea my family can go anywhere and know the diffenerce between good crystal and china, know how to use the right fork and they learned from Gran! So,I am making memiores not nightmares and that what I would be doing if someone broke my crystal and I freaked..........Plus this is why I have it to use it......I rather it breaks on my watch then when am died and I never enjoyed it...............

I have a 12 setting set of white with gold rim, and as I can't stand seeing odd plates or anything on the table, I say "no more than 12 people can come"......only kidding lol...but the only thing I have thats been passed down to me is the meat server, I would be very upset if this got broken

I have a set of Johnson Bros. dinnerware in a pattern called Friendly Village. I don't save it just for Christmas, but with all the old-time village scenes in snow, it looks so Christmas-y. It's fun to have something fun for that day. Wildlivesinmygarden has the best idea, though! White Corelle goes with everything and survives all the mishaps that happen in a houseful of kids. Smart gal!

Sounds lovely! can I come? I have gone down the modernist square white route, but that seems a bit clinical for Christmas, so I have got some plates with holly, ivy, and other Christmassy stuff on to make things a bit more traditional. I have Waterford crystal glasses, but am always scared to put them out but I do, and suffer agonies watching people with them.Especially my great lummox of a partner.

I have a set of Christmas dishes my friend gave to me years ago now , it's for four. I also have some of my mum's old christmas dishes .

I think people are beginning again to do stylish tables for holiday seasons. It's a great memory for children and grandchildren to have.

I use plain white Corelle Ware for all occasions because it can be replaced easily.
Service for 18 because we have guests a lot and Grand children around. If the dishes get broken I don't fuss.
Have some special flatware, tablecloth and napkins which are brought out for festive occasions.
replacements. com is a wonderful place for replacing heirloom flatware and dishes.
Had to use their services for our flatware pattern that is pretty unusual.

I have a set that my grandma gave to me right after I got married. That is what I use when we have our special holiday dinners. They are harvest colors, trimmed out in gold. I also have the glasses to match them. My grandma has been gone now for for about 3 years.

Yes, I have a set of dishes with fruit on it. It's Corelle. I use it for every special occasion. I also have Pfaltzgraff, but only a set of five. They get used too.
