droughts, a world-wide flood, bubonic plague, malaria, polio, dysentary, spiteful popes, wars with early Islam, 2 World Wars, solar flares, holes in the ozone, the explosion of Mt. Krakatoa which caused world wide food shortages for the next year, and a multitude of other disasters over a period of many thousands of years.
Many of you believe the world is going to end and you continue asking about it.
Why do you believe that, after all that man has survived in the past?

People with large egos assume that the world will end if mankind ends. So for them, any threat to humankind is a threat to the world.
Pointing out historical accounts of truly species-threatening occurrences (that we obviously survived) ruins the whole doomsday aura. Many prefer to sensationalize the prevailing environment despite facts. It's the same tendency that humans have when watching a scary movie. We all know that vampires don't exist, but we allow ourselves to be fooled enough to actually get scared of them when watching the movie.
Fortunately for movies, and unfortunately for doomsday believers, promoting those short-term fears is very profitable. Look at the money made from books about an expiring Mayan calendar!

There is much we do not know, we can't live anywhere else in the universe-not yet anyways, and ignorant, stupid and crazy people get to positions nobody believed they could, but they did. For all these, for All these reasons & for lots of others, humans had best err on the side of fear and caution and avoid the ********* of a foolish incompetent know-it-all like the guy we now have in the Whitehouse. Survived how long? What, recorded history only goes back 3-4000 yrs: what's that in cosmic time?
Yaoi, Human's should be very afraid as far as I am concerned esp given all their bad behaviors and their overbearing attitude toward spaceship Earth and the way humans treat(abuse) the biosphere and each other. Malthus had it right.
I personally think it will be a stupid virus or an almost lifeless prion that gets us, since they need so little and they evolve so much faster than we do. The virus may not kill us directly, but indirectly by truncating the food chains that make up the food web. Something that probably attacks the plants that absorb sunlight at the beginning of the food web will terminate us.
We are what we eat. If we have nothing left to eat...well you all get the point! Good Q even if it is very conservatively posed. It made me think "outside the box".

Each of those events ended the world in a sense, it ended a way of life for some which ended their world but a new one began right after. How ever you look at it the world will end, no one knows when but its a certainty that the world will end, if it be a destruction of the entire planet or a frozen ice ball. Its also certain that the way of life on earth is going to end but at the same time begin a whole new way for something else. Don't just judge because humans still exist doesn't mean the world hasn't ended.

That something has not yet happened is no evidence at all that it won't happen for the first time in the next five minutes.
Also, we have survived a FEW relatively small atom bombs. We possess enough now to destroy the atmosphere and kill all human life on the planet. That's new. Plus we have no guarantee against and considerable evidence for the possiblity of an asteroid strike at any time, or the outbreak of a lethal pandemic - I'd say if you are so glib about the possibility of the end of human life, you don't realize all the actual threats arrayed against it.

predicting the apacolypse has been going on since Nero was throwing Christians to the lions, every turn of the Century, every end of the millenia, the 7th Day Adventists had their day in 1912, the Jim Jones cult and wacko in Waco both had their days, every passing of Haley's comet, eclipse of the sun and other end-of earth prophesies that i'm sure i missed. One thing you can be sure of, the arsenals of the US and Russia can obliterate a million Hiroshimas....anyway you make a good point...sleep tight.

It probably wont completely end, but I think Iran will only do it if they feel threatened or are under attack. But the 2012 theory is about is a global climate change and destruction, it is also based on the Mayan calender ending
