You could sign up for assistance..... OR, you could go to the dollar store and get some toys and what not.... but the 8 year old is going to be smarter than that, so you want to be honest about why she didn't get a pony.... Plan a trip for Christmas day. My mom was a single mom and one year, well, Christmas was pretty scarce with the presents. So she took me to the beach and we got ice cream and made sand castles. It was very special. She was relaxed, we had fun, etc. It's not so much about the presents. Do something with them that you never have time to do. Make it good.
OR, if you do have a little cash flow, then do your shopping online. You can get some awesome price breaks. I bought presents for 38 people and only spent $250. They are all gonna think I spent a fortune! Muhahahha! Amazon.com is a good place to start.

BUILD A CASTLE
When i was younger my mum got a few boxes selotape and built me a castle
she also used foil paper and paint i played with it for over a month until id broke it (but if u wanted to u could make another)it really it is the best pressie i had to this day (and im 24) and plan on doing it for my daughter this year toys get broken all the time its just money wasted my 2 kids are 2 1/2 and the other 14 months and they have the biggest room in my house full of toys and they hardley ever play with them
the best thing about this for a gift would be that you really would put your heart and soul into it and feel 100 times better than walking into a shop and buying any old toy which anyone can do

Why is everyone so hung up on buying a few presents. I've been broke many many times in my life...but taught my children that homemade gifts from the heart are the best gifts.....one that no amount of money can buy. Make them each a special cookie with a message just for them. Crochet them a hat or scarf. Make them a note from the heart and with love. These are the gifts that will long be remembered and treasured.

Here is my suggestion:
1. Look in your local phone directory for Salvation Army -- they DO add children in extreme need (and .. remember this -- you MUST provide PROOF of Your income (including any spousal support/child support or other person in the household income) along with the PROOF of Bills for support of yourself/the children/household members. They REQUIRE SSN and other information -- which can be verified.
2. The Waterfront Mission has the SAME Requirements as Salvation Army.
3. Family Services in the County that you live in. SAME requirements for Verifiable need -- and they WILL Check!
4. Church Groups -- especially if you attend one.
5. Sometimes Schools have special programs for Children in need -- again, you must have a VERIFIABLE need.
PROOF is important .. and required. Believe me, they all do check things out - and IF you can prove need, most are very willing to try to help your family out NOT just this time of year with "presents", but other forms of assistance as well.

You know what? Your kids aren't at that age yet when they might hate you for a week for not buying them a bratz doll or something. What if you made them something like a picture of the two of them as angels, or a special meal? If you do something like that you'll remember how special this Christmas was because you made the best of it with limited money, and you'll be able to tell them a story ten years from now when the three of you are watching your plasma t.v. on your leather couch about how you made the most of what you had and gave them a meaningful Christmas.

Check with your local Salvation Army and the Jaycees. The Jaycees distribute all of the donated toys to needy children collected from the Marines Toys for Tots. They match the donated toys to the letters the children write to santa from their gift list. Also, if you have a local St Vincent de Paul they usually have a holiday party where santa hands out toys for needy children.

Eight-year-olds might like to have a Barbie doll, and Walmart has 'em for around ten bucks. The ten-month-old will be easy to please. Just walk up and down the toy aisle and pick something out for that age range.
By the way, if you really need a job, go to the nearest Domino's Pizza and apply as a driver. You make good money, and they need help, I promise. (If you don't have a car or don't want to use it for delivery or your driving record is bad, they'll put you to work as a CSR, answering phones and making pizzas.) Just try it. Honest engine.

Your DD is extremely unique. young ones today, they are going to arise with a protracted record, that they actually do no longer decide on, specifically a decide on factor. She's particular. i could only purchase her a present Card, to a minimum of one in each and every of her well-known shops. Does she like listening to song? Many young ones do no longer decide on a sparkling toy, yet they are extremely spend $$$$$ on makeup or hair products. Is your DD a form of varieties? while i became 13, i became happy only getting a sparkling outfit, new footwear, even a sparkling bag. We have been poorer than maximum as quickly as we are only commencing out, yet my father and mom have been very frugal, coming from Asia etc, so i became happy in something 'new'. We did shopped at Goodwill, so i became happy I had new clothing. I made ninety% of my clothing in HS, so we offered mom a stitching device, yet wager who advantages it the main. Does she decide directly to cook dinner? possibly you may desire to discover some new components for her next 'meal ask your self'. i do no longer understand your DD, such as you do, yet possibly only spend greater high quality time together with her, take her to the park with each and all the rids, a short force and spend an afternoon spoiling her. i wanted my father and mom spend greater high quality time with me. I did that until now they died, because of the fact it became too late while i became youthful, yet I made up for as quickly as I have been given smarter & older. while my young ones asked me what i wanted for Christmas, I asked for greater high quality time at the same time or stay flowers/plant life so i'm able to savour them.
