Someone asked me to be their "beta" - what exactly do I do?

I know I have to check grammar, spelling, continuity, etc. but how exactly do I do this? He has already sent me the Word document. Do I make the corrections on it (like, make comments in different-colored ink)?

I would just use spell check and then proof read to make sure that the person didn't add any unnecessary words. You should probably just leave it in the automatic ink since this person probably wants to turn their work into someone or post it on another website. Good luck!
