Its not - one more ridiculous red-herring put forth to get narrow-minded nincompoops riled up and out to the polls to vote for the GOP.
How many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Itallian, German, Gaelic, or Yiddish speakers do you enounter these days who don't use English in America - that's right none.
I know this is futile, but here is some research that demonstrates why you xenophobes have nothing to fear.

I think Sachin is hoping to continue to play just the IPL (basically due to his love for Mumbai and connection with the Ambanis) apart from test cricket and a few selected, important domestic matches for Mumbai. I was of the view that this plan may not take him much farther as it seems a bit disjointed with IPL being a different ball game altogether and test match series being few and far in between. Today, seeing him bat the way he did, it does look like he is going to succeed even in this kind of disjointed plan and probably continue for the next 3 years at least, if not 5 as you have stated. He was in really good form with tremendous confidence and touch.... his batting was simply flawless.... this guy is undoubtedly peerless and absolutely incredible.... it is 'n'th time he is proving all 'pundits' wrong.... it was not for nothing that Bradman told his wife that Sachin's batting reminds him of himself in his own primetime. I am pretty convinced that even Bradman would probably have not been able to be so successful for such a sustained period of time despite such an enormous pressure of expectations of millions of fans. I have a queer feeling that Sachin would never retire and would forever remain the key batsman for the Indian team, until and unless he is forced to quit cricket for the sake of his immediate family (wife, son and daughter) and meanwhile, he will keep performing and proving all experts wrong in predicting his decline due to age and reflexes. Today this reflex theory was blown up into pieces by him as he walked in at 2 down for 12 with both openers consumed by Pattinson bowling at almost 150 and hit him for three wonderful boundaries in the first four deliveries faced by him. I agree that cricket will not mean the same to millions if there is no Sachin as he has become a special defining part of the game itself!!

Because times change. People are always so heated about "if they come here they should speak our language" . But I tend to look at it from an economic standpoint. If buisnesses need language qualified people to stay competitive then thats what they have to do. On the flip side, if workers from other countries need to learn english to get a good job in the US then thats what they have to do. I dont care what language you speak as long as you're buying from me and not causing trouble.
I think the official language should be english, because thats traditionally what is spoken in the US, but theres no denying that spanish is a commonly spoken language here.

Because people keep buying into political correctness and voting for the anus's who preach it. We have a Democrat cogress that can't agree on when to wipe after they crap - they will vote on anything to appear busy - like a guy carrying tools around, but never working. Immigrants need to assimilate, take up our way of life - be proud of the USA and fight to stay free. You hippies don't get it because you live in a dream world where everything is given to you - someone is working for it, I just want to make sure if they work here and make money here, that they speak the language and pay taxes - am I asking too much? I travel all over the world - when I go to Greece, I don't semand that people speak English, I buy a friggin' Greek dictionary and I try my *** off the speak their tongue - some cut me off and speak English to me. Others let me work hard and get better at their language. THATS WHAT AMERICA USED TO BE; WORKING HARD AND GETTING BETTER - now it's a bunch of peacenicks sitting on their *** as our national pride and go-getter attitude disappears. Keep giving the country away - pretty soon you'll HAVE to learn another language, Ours will be gone!

In most parts of the country there is no need. But in the city of Miami Fla., English is a second language.
Seriously, I'm not kidding. Spanish is the primary language thanks to the Cubans.

I don't have a problem with English being the official language so long as we do not use it as an excuse to discriminate.
After all, it IS the language our Constitution and Bill of Rights is written in.

In the past, people came here to stay, they learned English. No accommodations were made for them to do anything but learn English. There was no media (except newspapers) in any languages but English. Immigrants learned English, encouraged their children to do the same. These days people are coming here and even their U.S. born offspring aren't learning English. There MUST be some incentive for them to learn English or we will become a divided nation. Our common language is what hold together this diverse Nation.
