No country provides the majority of our oil in the US. The largest providers are:

Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in September 2007 has been released and it shows that one country has exported more than 1.50 million barrels per day to the United States. Including that country, a total of five countries exported over 1.00 million barrels per day of crude oil to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 68 percent of United States crude oil imports in September while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 88 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top sources of US crude oil imports for September were Canada (1.960 million barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1.441 million barrels per day), Mexico (1.293 million barrels per day), Venezuela (1.146 million barrels per day), and Nigeria (1.137 million barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (0.603 million barrels per day), Angola (0.578 million barrels per day), Algeria (0.503 million barrels per day), Ecuador (0.234 million barrels per day), and Brazil (0.213 million barrels per day). Total crude oil imports averaged 10,315 million barrels per day in September, which is an increase of 0.031 million barrels per day from August 2007.

Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum in September, exporting 2.502 million barrels per day to the United States, which was a decrease from last month (2.510 thousand barrels per day). The second largest exporter of total petroleum was Saudi Arabia with 1.560 million barrels per day.

Well, the country that provides the most oil to the United States of America is...


...the United States of America. Domestic production covers some 35% of our energy needs.

Beyond that, we buy oil from a number of countries, with Canada being pretty substantially at the top of the list, followed by Saudi Arabia and Mexico.

There is no one country that provides a majority of the US's oil.

Last I heard, Venezueala sells the US 40% of our unrefined oil. I don't know of a country that has a higher percentage, but there may be.
