"Fossil" fuel would be fuel that is about as old as a fossil. Examples are oil, coal, and natural gas. These fuels come from plants which captured solar energy millions of years ago, over an extended period. Now they are being burned, in a geologic instant.

BioFuels come from plants (or animals) which were recently alive, and are therefore "renewable".

Other "renewable" energies include solar and wind.
