Cubans are very grateful for the income from the tourist industry, (we don't pay much for accomodation there, by the way), but they are also interested, like we all are, in meeting people from different parts of the world.

Referring to the comment about tourist people who have everything: I found the best answer to that was the artificially low exchange rate for the Cuban peso, induced by the US embargo. When I sat down with some Cubans and worked out cost of, for example a loaf of bread, the differences are not so extreme in basic income. Cuban income is very low but the government is expected to ensure living standards.

Someone asked me what sort of economic status the tourists had. The people I talked to were horrified at the idea of homelessness, for example.

The positive impact is obvious : tourism is the second source of income for Cuba ( after the money sent to the island from abroad by friends and family)
The negative impact, Cubans discover an other world and think that the tourists are capitalists who can afford everything.
