I thought by choosing a BA it was worth 5 points but I got credited 3. I had a long day at work.

It's always, well as long as I've been on here anyway, been 3
They have taken away points for Thumbs Up given AFTER an answer has been selected as BA though.
You now only get them for TUs given before BA selection is done

nope. it's still the same. you lose five points for deleting or asking a question. but it's always been 3 points for choosing BA.
