There was a Catholic Bishop in the Middle Ages named St Nicholas who is believed to be the origin of Santa Claus who we know today.
Santa Claus as the faerie who visits all the children's homes around the globe at midnight is derived from the ancient Norse god Odin who even drove his own sleigh and reindeer at Yule (which predates Christmas by several centuries).

There was a man named St. Nick a long time ago , and he went into peoples houses and left presents and money, but they thought he was a thief. And Santa Claus is based on him.

Yes,I think he is but I'm not sure. When my parents went to bed on Christmas Eve last year,I snuck out real quick right after they went to bed and the milk and cookies that my little sister put out were gone!It was only like a minute ago that they were put out there.I'm hoping Santa ate them, left the gifts,in like a nanosecond. But I didn't even hear hin out in the living room cause I was still up watching a movie in my room, and I would,ve heard him,but after all,he's all magic,so who knows. That must be how he goes to EVERY house in one night,it only takes him like 1/2 second to come and go.

Saint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He was a 4th century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity.
