Recently, I when I was logged on, my mouse stopped working. Thinking nothing of it (I have a wireless keyboard/mouse), I unplugged the receiver, and tried to re-connect the keyboard/mouse. However, I still couldn't move the mouse/keyboard. So I tried a corded keyboard/mouse (using PS2) and it still wouldn't work. I've tried rebooting, and it still wont work (I'm using a different computer right now). However, I know that the keyboard/mouse/hardware isn't defective because I was able to boot onto Ubuntu (Linux) via a live CD, and everything worked just fine (keyboard/mouse). Regardless, I still can't get into Vista...I get stuck at the log-on screen (I've got a password, and safe mode doesn't work). My only method of input is a media center remote (plugs into USB ... but that only 'types' numbers (which do, however, appear). I've got absolutely no idea what to do.

What error message did you get when you tried to boot into Vista?

Anyway, power your PC off, and everything that connects to it. Then disconnect and re-connect your keyboard, then your mouse. Reboot

How are the batteries in the mouse and keyboard.your mouse and keyboard gets stuck at the logon screen is what I am hearing. When starting up press the F1 or keep tapping the F1 key and go to the bios screen. go to the startup tab and be sure the plug and play says yes next to it if it doesn't arrow down and turn it on. It is in the vista o/s where the problem lies as you said ubuntu worked fine. if this does not work I hope you have a vista disk and can do an o/s repair.

first change batteries, I use lithium in mine, last longer, then press button on receiver and reset buttons on keyboard and mouse, on the underside of board and mouse, try it a couple of times, if that fails reinstall drivers. On mine which is a belkin 250 I only plug in one plug to where you used to plug in wired board and mouse that was a trap for me. But i had to get it to work because it was a gift.
