I have a software degree and want to get into programming. Most programming jobs are looking for 2yrs experience in programming, but i have 2yrs exp in tech support.
Would getting a software tester job first be a good stepping stone between tech support and programming? They dont seem to require as much experience, so im more hopeful of being able to get a job.

No, s/w testing is entirely different from programming. If u have tech. exp. then go thru that. But if u like to go with programming, be efficient in any 2 or 3 languages tat r currently using in companies.I think this may be a good idea.
Think urself positively and work on..
Good luck

Actually it would often be the other way around - to be a really good software tester unless your organization just has you follow already written test scripts and report on results, you'd be better with some programming experience. If you are just following test scripts and reporting on them, it wouldn't really give you any experience toward programming, although you might be able to work your way into programming if you show you are interested and capable, hard working and detailed.

that's a extremely no longer elementary question - it relatively relies upon on the type of person you're. once you're a flow-getter, and are advantageous which you will artwork your way up into yet another place, I say decide for it. earlier you do regardless of the undeniable fact that, i might first make advantageous that the possibility exists to flow right into a programmer place - that's a risk that the employer does not hire programmers from finding out, so make advantageous first. i think of the adventure might do you solid regardless of the undeniable fact that, and in case you're no longer waiting to locate an get right of entry to point place someplace, I say take it. interior the period in-between, save you programming qualifications sparkling by using the two engaged on a undertaking of your very own, or maybe coming here and answering questions you're not sure of - that's going to stress you to refresh your reminiscence so which you do no longer lose the certainty you have gained. solid success : )

It wouldnt hurt, but it may not help much. What you really need to get a programming gig is some level of expertise in a language. One thing you could do is write a program, then use that to "show off" to potential employers.
