I was wondering if anyone on here has suffered from a deteriorating disk in thier back and what is done to fix this problem because Its really painful and I just want to play basketball but now it sounds like I'm out for a while and I'm really depressed. If anyone could help that would be great.

Only time will heal a disk that's deteriorating. You may/might try Chriopractic and Acupuncture to alleviatge the pain...but I wouldn't play for a time till it heals. PEACE!

It really depends upon where it is, but try using one of the back supports with Velcro.

I Have some form of arthritis, the Doctors cannot decide what form, and use it when my low back is bad. It is quite helpful.
The peal and stick icy hot type patches are helpful also. Of course Vicodin works for 3 and 1/2 hours also.

The do have micro surgery now that I have heard good things about. I think they fuse a couple of vertebrae.

Your basket ball may have to be more gentle.

I have suffered from this as well. The best thing you can do for the pain is to strengthen your core muscles. Because you are male, you may be opposed to it, but pilates is the best thing to strengthen your core. It is nice because the exercises are difficult, but you can modify them to your level of functioning until you are strong enough to do them completely. Good luck!

FYI--time will NOT heal this...it is a degenerative change...and you can only treat the pain and prolong more invasive measures
