The easiest way (without a calculator) to determine which fraction is greater than another is to convert them to a common denominator. The common denominator here would be 50, so:

12/25 = 24/50
1/2 = 25/50

24/50 < 25/50

therefore

12/25 < 1/2

Best of luck! :)

No. 12/24=1/2 so 12/25 is less that 1/2

To check, you need to convert them to have the same denominator...the simplest way to do that is to multiply 1/2 by 25/25 and multiply 12/25 by 2/2...notice that 25/25 = 2/2 = 1, this way you are multiplying both fractions by 1, which will not change the numbers of the fraction.
The results are 24/50 (was 12/25) and 25/50 (was 1/2)...this shows you that 12/25 is less than 1/2

well, is 12 greater than or less than half of 25?

if it is greater than half, than 12/25 is greater than 1/2, but if it is lesser, than 12/25 is lesser than 1/2

less than... 12/25 is 24/50
1/2 is 25/50

you have to compare them using the same denominator.
