I agree with the guy above me in that using sequels is stacking the deck with the same game basically. I mean, Guitar Hero I and II...are you serious? I think your blog ought to be called "My favorite games of the past 5 years." What about Ocarina of Time? Mortal Kombat? World of Warcraft? Paperboy on the NES??? Jak II? Assassin's Creed? KOTOR? GOLDENEYE??? Call of Duty? Battlefield? Pokemon? Sonic? Mario 64 was pretty revolutionary. Countless others to name...Civilization? Rise of Nations? Reader Rabit even... i disagree with your list in that its not diverse at all and really only has 5 titles.
having said that Gears of War kicks *** and is in my personal top III favorites.

I do not agree. Your list sounds like "The top ten games that I've played in the last 15 minutes."
Try playing Half-life, and considering that it was a great game because of the amazing advances that it made in the first-person genre. Then play Half-Life 2 and its expansions.
If you're talking about Popularity, check out Everquest or World of Warcraft (9+ million players worldwide).
You didn't specify video games either, so I might venture to offer up Dungeons and Dragons, which is what popularized the genre of fantasy roleplaying.
Chess.
Solitaire
Freecell
Minesweeper
Dark Tower - First board game with electronic components.
Tennis - the first video game, played on an oscilloscope.

your list doesn't take anything really into consideration other than how "big" the titles were. All of those games were A-list because they had ridiculous budgets. I'm not saying they're bad games, but how about some diversity? What about Ocarina of Time? Any Super Mario Game (they're all flawless)? Also, try not to use sequels, they're basically the same games. Basically, I don't agree.

This is supposed to be a list of top 10 games of ALL TIME. You haven't listed any NES, SNES, N64, or PS1 games at all. Where is Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time? (Best game ever, in my opinion.) Here is IGN's latest "Top 100 Games of All Time" list. I think you should take a look at it.
http://top100.ign.com/2007/index.html
EDIT: You must have a Super Mario Bros. game on your list, too. IGN listed the original as #1, but I would pick SMB3 as my fave Mario game.
