By the way (though this may hint at the answer) the first important change Miller makes to what ACTUALLY happened in Salem in and before 1692 is to have Abigail Williams be 17 years old, and John Proctor 40-ish. In truth, Abigail was about 11 at the time, and Proctor about 60.. but that would have undercut Miller's whole story.
