USA I work as a teacher. I allow my kids to bring cell phones to class even though they are prohibited and they will get a detention if caught. I think the rule is ridiculous and not in all in keeping with the real world. If they have their work done, they can text till their fingers fall off. Just no cells during tests.

Wow, how did I ever manage with the amount of emergencies, kidnappings and shooting rampages that went on back in my day where id have been better served with a cell phone.
Oh, to answer, no you shouldnt. The school has phones if there is an emergency. I know most of you schoolies will disagree, but telling your bff what their crush just said does not constitute an emergency.

Yeah, what if something that qualifies as an emergency occurs? Cellphones should be allowed in both middle and high school

I think the cell phone is huge distraction, when you are in class you should have 100% focus on your teacher and your subject. Cell phones are practically walking computers now. You can play games, text your friends, email pictures and video. Don't cheat yourself out of an education because you are too distracted with your cell phone. If you need to bring it fine but be responsible and put it in your locker with the ringer off and make your calls in between classes or when it is permitted.

We should bring our cellphones to school for emergency, however, some kids aren't the most responsible and they can loose their cellphones. And who's buying it back? That's right nobody!

Yes I think you should have them in case you need them, but agree they should be kept in your locker. They can be a distraction in class for many reasons but if you need to call someone during lunch or a break, you should be allowed to do so. I work out of the area code of my daughter's school, so they would not let her make a long distance call from the office phone, so she should be allowed to make her call from her cell which should be kept in her locked locker because it is safer there than in her locked car.

um so I've been out of school for 7 years but why do you need them? If someone needs to get in contact with you they usually call the school, and then you get called to the office. I would think most of the people you are texting and calling you are going to see at some point in the day anyway right? Maybe if you use them during study hall or something, but I wouldn't see why you need them in your regular classes.

I think it should be allowed unless it's a certain kind of phone like a sidekick because everyone's who's been using them so far is only using it for chatting purposes not for emergencies. I think phones should be put on vibrate or turned off during school and turned back on once we exit the building.

YES!! in my school, we are aloud to use our cellphones but only out of class. some kids use it however in middle of class and the teachers take it away. theyre supposed to hold onto it and give it to the dean until a parent comes up to get it but most teachers just say turn it off if they hear it or give it back to us after class. :)

bringing them to school is ok, but i don't think that having them on during school hours is necessary. i think it's so dumb when people text each other inbetween class, i think people should talk to each other more face to face then on their stupid phones. phones can also make cheating easier. i wish more teachers would catch kids on their phones. phones can also eliminate your number of friends. when i see someone texting on their phone, it gets kind of annoying after while because they're detaching themselves from everyone else. i think the main purpose cell phones are supposed to serve at school is for things like rides after school or if you need to go home sick, or forgot something at home. so i don't think you shouldn't be able to bring your phone to school at all, just don't have it on during the day, and if you do, have it on vibrate.
