well, in theory i suppose i could, but ive never been in a fight where i actually did anything. i always just stood my ground, they gave up and walked off. but if it came down to it, life or death situation you know im pretty sure i could.

This one of those questions where people will say 'Yes, I'm sure I could' or 'No, I could never do that'. But really you never know what you're capable of until you're in the situation. It depends on a lot of things, not the least being: How sure exactly are you that the person is trying to kill you?
I think if it was really clearly a matter of kill or be killed, most of us probably could do it. But it's hard to imagine the exact circumstances.

To be honest I think you would have to be in the situation of being "attacked or something" to be able to answer this honestly. We all think we can do something or not as the case may be but until faced with this situation you never really know how you will react. I always had in my head what I would do -- it does not work out the way you intend it to. The shock itself can make you freeze or act in a way you never believed you could.

I work at a sandwich shop that is open late. We have to deal with drunks every weekend. Thus, I routinely have to break up fights. After feeling what it is like to be attacked and uncertain of how badly the other person plans on hurting you, or whether or not they have a weapon, I have to say that I could kill in self-defense.

I am not sure that anyone could really answer this until they have actually been in a situation that forces them to act. Saying you could do and doing are two completely different things. Ending someone else's life changes yours forever, regardless of whether or not you had a good reason for it.

I don't think you'd be thinking about whether you kill them or not. The whole point of self defence is to get the person who is attacking you off. If you hit them with something hard to do this then it would more than likely be impluse and not pre meditated... hense it would be self defence. if you think about it first... ITS MURDER!!

I would do whatever it took to get them off me if I was being attacked, but if someone was hurting my baby my mom,or my nieces or nephew, I would cripple them without a second thought. Still not sure if I could kill, unless absolutely necessary.

If you intend to kill someone then its is either man slaughter or murder if you kill someone in self defence then unless you planned it then it will have just happened that you struck them wrong or they fell wrong etc ... there fore you wouldnt have had the choice to kill them or not.
Pre meditated murder is where you conciously make the decision to kill. self defence would not have these factures

I know I could! If you had to chose between him taking your life or you taking his and had no choice in the matter, adrenaline kicks in and takes control. Your body merely becomes the tool by which your subconcious reaps the reward. It's not as if you become crazy like, just survival like.

I think it goes down to the ''squeamish'' effect for most normal ppl.
ie, to really hurt or even kill someone, you have to be able to do something bad to them, and lots of ppl simply can't do that, because it's not pleasant and it is final.
You can ask yourself afterwards ''what if he was about to stop hurting me and leave'' or ''could I have simply escaped'' etc,etc,etc..
Personally, for myself, I don't know.
Regarding protecting my wife (we have no kids) or my Mum n Dad (both elderly), then yes, I think I could.
