I know my friend loves to knit but I barely know anything about knitting. Besides balls of yarn, what should I buy her for Christmas? Is there a special knitting kit gift I can get her? (Sorry, I don't even know if those exists.) I want to spend $10 on her present. Thanks =)

Thanks for all your suggestion =) I think I might buy a basket first and then fill it up.
Since my lunch table are doing Secret Santa, it'll be obvious if I suddenly dig through her stuff. But that's a really good idea! Maybe I should get someone else to do that =D
LOL my friends and I are 17 years old.

If you go to walmart or somthing, you can find a tote pretty cheap... i got my art one for $5 there.... get a tote, some knitting needles and a knitting book(you can find these at crafts stores like michaels and joanns).
I dont know how advanced she is, but if shes a beginner, get her a basic knitting book, if shes good, get her one with advanced designs and such(and the proper needles, as certain shapes require special needles) if you get confused with all the options, talk to a clerk and they will be able to direct you towards whats most appropriate. You can also buy her some yarn if you are willing to spend a little more, good luck!

Since you are thinking about doing a basket for her, I would suggest putting in some kind of fun snack and/or drink (coffee or tea, or her favorite soda), add in a small notebook and pen(knitters are always seeing new patterns and ideas, and it really helps to keep track of them) - you can usually find some with a knitting/yarn theme at book and craft stores, and then to round out the basket I'd put in a fun notion (just look through the store and see what reminds you of her - stitch markers and needle keepers are always useful) or a knitting themed keychain or Christmas ornament would be fun.
Just remember that there's more to your friend than just the fact that she knits, so make sure your gift reflects her personality as well as her hobby.

Well, I love to knit and crochet, and I've been waiting for someone to get me a subscription to a crochet or knitting magazine as a gift. They have special patterns depending on the time of year and holiday that is approaching.....you get 8 to 12 issues per year depending on the magazine subscription.....it's the gift that keeps on giving...and the bonus part would be that, usually, the person receiving the subscription will make something from one of the patterns and give it to you in appreciation of such a wonderful gift you've given them.......
I know a subscription costs more than 10, but one year isn't much more than that.....you could buy just one magazine, and some yarn in their favorite colour, enough to make something in the magazine....

Check out Etsy.com a really easy and reasonably priced gift is stitch markers. You can also go to your Michaels, or hobby lobby or something like that and pick up some knitting notions. Such as a counter, it is a little thing with a clicker on its that you press to count your rows. Cable needles, Stitch holders. You may be able to find a needle roll or something to store her needles in. My fave gift ever was really a decorative box for a bottle of wine, it was very pretty, and use it to hold my straight needles.

Eh, if she is already into knitting then chance are she already has her favorite knitting needles and yarn. Find out what kind of music she like to listen to and buy the CD. I would suggest something smooth like Jazz, something easy on the ears as she probably is in a state of peace and relaxation when she knitts. you get the point. Wal-Mart or other stores have CD's in their crafts depts. that you should check out.

Get a cute little basket, a pair of needles, a skein of yarn, and an inexpensive pattern book. If you need help, ask someone in the craft section. It may cost a bit more than $10, but worth it.

I would suggest a pattern book that you know she doesn't have, or like someone suggested a tote or basket to hold her stuff, I am forever looking for a storage thing or a bag to carry my knitting stuff in. Something a little personal, you could decorate it or something like that.

Give her a gift certificate at the craft store. Joann's Fabrics has lots of different kinds of yarn. That way she can pick out her own.
