it all depends on what type of disk you have.. either full install or upgrade?

firstly as stated before, your pc can cope with xp? if not your better off getting a new machine (as it might be more cost effective than upgrading) or installing linux..

ok.. pop the disk in the drive.. reboot.. should give you the option.. "boot from cd..." hit a key.. and it will start..

if you can't boot off the cd.. check in your bios it's listed as the first boot device.. (hit del on booting or whatever it is to get into your bios)

if you still get no joy on autoboot..

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

go there, perhaps download the "win 98 se" boot disk.. write it to a floppy, use that to boot.

then go into d: (or whatever the cd drive is).. and just run setup.

as for upgrade disks.. ou just run em from the previous operating system.

first make sure you have the hardware to cope, enough ram, enough space on your hard drive. Win 98 is easier on puter resources than XP. XP is ram hungry, so check before you start. Then if you sure insert you XP cd in you drive and boot your pc to boot off cd, do a full install with reformat option, follow prompts, then download you security updates from microsoft, anywhere in windows XP click on windows updates.easiest is probably from internet explorer>tools>windows updates, when you get to microsoft site select "recommended" option

You don't say what type of PC you have (HP, Dell, etc)....but if you can go to the vendors site and search for and download all the drivers (or make sure there ARE drivers) for things like your network card, Audio, Video, CD-Rom, etc. You may also need to flash your BIOS to prepare for your upgrade.

if you have an upgrade, just pop the disc in and follow the on screen instructions, easy.
you do need to make sure your computer has the right specs to run xp it will show you the system requirements on the package. good luck.

First, be advised that none of the drivers you have now will support Win XP. So your cd drives probably won't work, printers & scanner too.

Chances are the computer you have is older and won't be too much good

put windows xp cd in cd drive
reboot
follow the instructions

keep in mind xp will be very very slow in a machine as old as win98, if it runs at all
