Why do some people just assume that all male ballet dancers are gay. I know that some male dancers are gay just as some women dancers are gay. I don't mind the steroytype, but I just would like your opinion.
Thanks-

Stereotypes of any type are promoted by people
with a big smattering of Ignorance !

Those who make them should be told in no
uncertain terms to give some proof of what
they are saying !

I don't really know why there is a stereotype for male ballet dancers to be gay. Perhaps it may be the fact that guys always put up this vaneer of I'm tough, sports are awesome, I'm so manly and buff. ??? And then when a guy actually does something he likes to do or expresses themself in some way, people get all freaky about it and automatically assume they're gay. It could also be that guys are the minority in ballet dancing so it's assumed that there must be something different going on besides the fact he likes to dance.

i'm a ballet dancer myself, and that i understand 2 boys in my grade. the two are very stable dancers and are not gay. the clarification is that ballet is considered as a female dance. So human beings right this moment anticipate that a male dancer is gay, or greater female than masculine. yet men easily made ballet so plenty greater customary. men like Rudolf Nureyev made ballet what this is at present. i in my opinion have not got self belief in stereotypes of the dancing marketplace, yet ensure to maintain on dancing!

Both men and women dance, its part of the joy of life.

Those assume that all male dancers are gay makes two fundamental errors. First they believe in denial of the facts. Second, they are likely to hold this, and other opinions as they form a simple view of life.

Are male ballet dancers gay? Yes, some are. But so are some teachers, soldiers and football players. Even some politicians and policeman are gay.

There is no simple connection between gender preference and the careers and interests we have.

Dance on guys!

little by little the stereotype of a male ballet dancer is beginning to change, especially since young boys are not being ridiculed as being gays when they dance ballet, ballet is actually really very athletic, sometimes even more...

The assumption is that a woman should look graceful and and light. The same way, men are expected to look masculine and heavy. This is where the stereotype comes from. I think it's the light look vs heavy look.
Incidentally, I noticed that gay men pay more attention to how they look, just like women do. They like to look fitter.
It is unfortunate that an average straight man is expected to have bad posture and a spare tire.
