Well, I'm no expert, but based on your Q, you have some self-esteem problems. People say that because it's usually hard to love someone else when you don't even love yourself. You're right about making the point "I'm 15 and weigh 400 lbs." Well, there are two choices...do nothing, or do something. There are ways around things like this....you just have to look at it another way. For example, using the weight issue one, you can disipline yourself by not eating junk food. You might lose weight, maybe gain, but doubt it......it just depends on your body. A first step to gaining confidence would be to praise yourself for the disipline and if you lost weight....there ya go...another positive step...

I think because they want to give the person a 'quick fix' and not actually put any effort in to helping them.
You are totally right that it's no good just telling someone to love themselves when they don't and some of the answers on here have been less than helpful imo.
If someone doesn't like themselves and has low self esteem they need to be taught how to love themselves and how to change or accept the things they don't like. They need to know how to build up the confidence to love themself. I also think it is more helpful to tell them that other people love, value and accept them for who they are than just telling them to love themself. With support a person can grow to love who they are without ever being told to.

People have no self-esteem because of either the way they
grew up or because they have had nothing but bad comments
about them all the time said to them. I know this because I use
to be a meth head and now recovering addict of a year and I
use to have a husband who always cut me down, but now I
have a boyfriend who does nothing but give me good
complaints and no you cant go from hatting your self to feeling
like you are on top over night but one day at a time!!!!

Yes, I can see where youre coming from but the question might be a little unclear. People can love themselves regardless of their weight/age ratio, and I wasnt sure if you were agreeing or disagreeing with that statement. ANYWHO...I agree in the sense that you arent able to go *poof* "love myself now!", ya know? :) I think we should try and help others love themselves in many ways, and just saying that will not help :P

well, people hate themselves, becuase, maybe they've been through alot, and they're kinda lost in the world. theyre probably faced amyn harsh things that they didnt want to. also, you should learn to love yourslef, no matter how u look, what u r, or what pplz say. just find the good in yourself, or in anybody, and be happy =]]

You have no idea! Love yourself means to respect yourself, when you do that you won't be 400 pounds, or a methhead. It doesn't happen overnight, but things will change. If you want to hate yourself for the way you are, it's really up to you. But you don't have to, it's your choice.

no.
people dont have confidence when other people hate them..
or think other people hate them.
people have low self esteem when other people take it away.
if you were 400 pounds and someone told you you were fat.
lowers your self esteem?
right?
but if no one gave a crap.
then your self esteem would be fine.
am i right?
its just how the world has progressed.
to make people feel like ****.
