I've said this before that all Jeter is is a healthy Barry Larkin, with a weaker glove, less speed and perhaps less pop.
Jeter at the time of the first A-Rod trade wasn't even the best SS on the Yankees roster. Firmly believe that they'd have been a better team with A-Rod at SS and Jeter at 2B.
Jeter is not a 19 million dollar a year player, honestly I don't think he's even worth 15 million.
Vastley over paid, has a weak glove for a SS and most likely would not be even well known if he played for say a KC or Cincinnati.
That being said he's not the most over rated player. That honor falls to Dontrelle Willis. He has had poor numbers the last couple of years and was downright horrible last year and yet people still want their teams to pony up top rung talent to get him because of baseballs PR machine.

No one is worth the money these guys get paid but there is no way Jeter is over rated. He does every thing exceptionally and is a clutch player. Just because Hanley had a break out year does not mean he deserves to be in Jeter's league. I like Hanley though and if I were picking today obviously I would go with Hanley but that don't mean Jeter sucks or anything.

Um....so I'm with Frizzer above me. Jeter is a veteran, been to multiple all-star games, finished I believe 3rd in last years MVP voting (so some important people don't think he's overrated). And how old is Hanley Ramirez? Not to mention, Hanley will never get a decent contract from the Marlins who hold their garage sale of talent every 3 or 4 years. They can't afford talent, then sell the team for christ's sake.
Hanley has to put up numbes like that for the Marlins to compete. Jeter doesnt hit homers because he doesnt HAVE to. Hanley also could not compete in pinstripes and that's why Jeter has the contract.
Oh yea, most overrated player is David Ortiz. He needed a good lineup so he could get pitches over the plate and Fenway park caters to ANY kind of hitter's needs.

Everyone is overrated if you compare them to Hanley Ramirez. The MLB and Players Union agreement sets maximum and minimum salaries for young players and you can't blame Jeter for that. I am not a Yankees fan but in today's market I would not say that Jeter is over paid or overrated. He is an elite player that is compensated in a range equal to his ability when compared to others with the same seniority. If you want a player that is over paid and overrated you do not need to look any further than his own teammate Jason Giambi who is making $21 million per year and hasn't done anything in the past five years.

Good point. No way Jeter would get paid 19 Million from any other team in MLB. I also agree with the first poster on Andruw Jones-guy is like a career .260 something hiter who whiffs a ton. Overrated player I'd give to david Ortiz-and here is why: These fans the last few years have been stupid enought to ask who is a better hitter-Ramirez or Ortiz. Ramirez may be the best pure hitter MLB has seen in decades. Guy is a piece of crap-but a hitting phenom. Now Ortiz-he benefits from hitting next to Manny-of course he will get pitches to hit-people would rather face him then Manny. Take Ramirez out of the mix and Ortiz is what he was asa Twin-average at best. Ever wonder why Ortiz is the first one to voice his say when Manny wants to leave Boston every March? Because even Ortiz knows-he won't get strikes to belt out of the park if he has no protection in the lineup. So I say Ortiz-

All Jeter does is bat .300 with 200 hits every year. The salary is part of being with the Yankees. He is a team player and does all the little things that don't show up in the box score. You could go through any roster and find a high paid unproductive player. Jeter is a future HOF.

From those stats you would have to say Hanley was better, as a met fan I do respect Jeter's career. I'm not going to compare one year of his career to one of Hanley's years. Jeter also has rings. Rings get the ladies.

Derek Jeter was voted the #1 most overated player by MLB players in 2006. So, he is the most overrated, period.
