It is stuck to it, so I think it is alive and fine. But its eyes and everything are in the shell. Do snails sleep when they are attached to stuff? If it were dead it would have fallen off, but he attaches to other things to and the shell is pulled down over his eyes. Is he just sleeping? Is he ok? I just want to be sure.

Ok sounds good. I only have a Betta with him right now. And it isnt a huge tank. The Betta does not seem to bother the snail at all.

If it is important, I just got through that bacteria cycle (it only took 2 days). Due to this, I was also thinking that something might be bothering the snail in the water (but shouldn't it go in its shell if something was bothering him?). So, it is probably sleeping.

my golden snail would stay on the glass for hours like that..and I was always afraid he was dead..but he never was. When he finally died, he actually sank to the bottom of the tank and turned upside down..almost as though his shell was empty. That's when I knew he was gone.

That's normal. It could mean that it is working on a particularly tough patch of algae, it is sleeping, or it was simply startled by something like a shadow, movement, or vibration and is "hiding" from it. Like you said, if it falls off and doesn't move, it is dead, but until then, it is fine.

EDIT: Depending on the type of snail, the lifespan will vary... Mystery/Apple Snails can live up to 10 years (bust stay closer to 5 years), Ramshorn can live for more than a year, and Malaysian Trumpets seem to live for ever at the rate they reproduce, but individuals only live for a year or two...

He is ok, my snail do that most of the time :) . Stick to glass for few hours then fall off to the bottom . Eat some food and go climb somewhere again :D . They are tough so it's not easy for them to die like that unless you eat him :P .

They float at the top of the water for days at a time without it meaning it's dead. Don't worry it's fine.
