You can also use a heating pad or hot water bottle, warm baths, herbal packs that you can heat in the microwave. Also, you can increase your levels of iron during that time by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course).
However, if the cramping is so bad that you can't function I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation to see what they think could be going on.

Heating pads do work wonders. Drinking hot tea helps as well. I don't know how old you are, but if over 21, a small glass or red wine thins your blood and makes clotting and cramping less. I understand not wanting to take pills, I avoid them as much as possible myself, but, low dose asprin once a day does the same thing red wine does.

Use heating pad or use some icey hot on the parts that hurt exerice take shower and let the hot water run the parts that hurt do the yoga lay down things like that might help you.

Only way to take a warm bath or heating pad to help you to relieve your pain. So, If doesn't work, goes see your doctor. They may give you the medicine.

lie on the floor on your back with your knees bent. Lift your lower torso off the floor. This will eleviate the pain without medication.

seriously this does work! most women do crave chocolate, this is the one time its okay to give in. chocolate has caffine in it just like most pain killers. it relieves the cramp and relieves your cravings all in one.
