I'm 12 yrs old, soprano (D3-E6) and the director is using http://www.broadwayjr.com/audition/auditionlist.asp?ID=15. I'm going for alice, definitly.

The problem is, I'm singing the song Home from The Wiz, and I don't know if I should belt it (stronger) or do it in mix/head voice(prettier, more "alicey"). it says choose your strongest singer/actor for alice.

HELP!

You need to sing to show that you can handle the role. Alice is not a belty role. I would say to sing it all or mostly very Alice-like. If you want to show them that you can belt then just hit one or two notes that way at the most, but you need to do it very nicely to show them you can be Alice. If you go in belting everything they may discount you thinking that you can't control your belt, know what I mean? Home is a beautiful song and you have the opportunity within that to show a pretty head voice and a strong mix like you said and personally I think that's the smart choice.

good luck,
Marianne

You go for it and belt i! Show them what you have, and if you get the role, they can always have you tone it down bit. If you do your pretty head voice, they may not know if you can belt it well. Good Luck, and answer my seussical question! I have auditions tomorrow too!

mix/head voice cuz it is best for alice, but try to make the higher notes stronger so they can see what you are capable of.
or, ask them to let you sing it twice! :)
good luck!

Don't belt it. Broadway Jr. shows don't usually do belting. It's not healthy to belt until your voice is matured.
