I barely started taking my birth control for this month, but yesterday I took some prescriptions for a bladder infection and nasal drip. Does that mean my birth control is uneffective? If so, how long does it take for it to become effective?

Well I'm currently taking "Kariva" for the birth control type. I have had unprotected sex yesterday and today so I think I might be at risk now that I realized I took an antibiotic.

I called the doctor and he said the meds he prescribed me won't render my birth control uneffective so yay!

Yes, it can lose effectiveness when you are on antibiotics so they recommend having a back up method during that time. I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

Yes, when you use antibiotics or any other medication, you need to consider birth control ineffective for at least 30 days after your last use of medication. My suggestion is to wait a couple of months.

antibiotics can SEVERELY limit the effectiveness of birth control. wait a few day after you stop taking the antibiotics to have sex without additional protection. st. johns wort will do the same thing
