Simple lots of homework = lots of learning.

Some teachers are just mean, BUT most of us understand that a small amount of homework reinforces what you learned in class and prepares you for the next lesson. Often, there is not enough time to fit everything in at school. The curriculum for any given course is huge. I always give less rather than more and try to work around sports schedules, etc.

Teachers give homework to ensure that you are learning the material. It's not that we don't want you to have social lives, we want social lives too. How do you think we feel having to grade papers all week long, it seems never ending to us. Still we have to give you homework because of standardized tests and no child left behind etc. I am sorry if you seem overwhelmed, maybe you can work with another student in your class if that is so.

Imagine you want to be a great basketball player. Someone shows you how to shoot from the freethrow line once -- then from the 3-point ring once -- then half court once. Would you expect to know how to shoot a basketball properly?

Homework is [or at least should be] designed to help you grow as a student and as a person.

Often teachers assign homework because they think they are supposed to. I only assign homework if I think it's going to help students understand the subject better or expand the way they think about the subject. The only other reason I assign homework is if it's something we can't do in school -- like interview someone, visit a place, or practice something (speech, play, etc.).

I hope that helps!

First and foremost homework is definitely NOT the "stupidest" thing that anyone has ever thought of. Whoever said that knows nothing and those who view homework like that has a limited idea of what EDUCATION offers to us. Do not be narrow-minded. Homeworks are not there to be a burden but to enhance. More homework means more knowledge!

They must be mad, they have to mark it. Creates too much extra work.

I'm amazed that teachers are posting answers to this. I would have thought they would have been marking H/work.

Seriously though, I bet the kids getting the good grades in exams all do homework.

So that they know you understand the material well. Its always good to have homework to know if you know what your doing, then if you don't always ask the teacher. I'm sure he/she wouldn't mind to help you out! Its all about being knowledgeable.

Practice at anything should make you better at it, and homework is also a test to see if you're actually learning what you are taught.
