From my experiences, life just sucks. Happiness for me is not achievable - unless in the form of medication. Life is nothing more then a world of misery, pain, and suffering. So why does anyone want to live? I embrace death. I live my life hoping to die. In have tried to kill myself so I can leave this living hell, but it doesn't seem right. A car hitting me or getting cancer seems better.

But why does anyone want to live? Life has no benefits

You're right. When you look at it from the perspective of starting a journey that's bound to end at a solid brick wall--and then we die--it's no wonder those who live their lives faster hit it harder. A quiet, measured amble toward that wall gives us time to reflect and contemplate upon even the wall itself.

But we all get there and we all end there. Depressing...if that was all life consisted of. Why hope, why dream, why pass anything on, why be better or make the world better? We won't be here to enjoy it anyway. Why even live one more day? The end is the same with fewer days until we get to the same end, can't it be said?

Even religion, man-based as it is, can't give us any clue about whether we have a purpose or not, because it can't tell us what happens after we die. So much life is wasted, so much doesn't go the way we personally would do things; so many experiences are different than so many others, how can we understand a purpose for it all? Why do we die when inevitably not everything we begin gets finished? So much potential , so much happiness and misery, so much left to others, so much gone.

The only lasting purpose we will ever have is that given to us by our creator. Those who don't believe they have a creator don't know a purpose to their lives that goes beyond this life. Essentially, they can find no real reason for ongoing, unflagging hope. Those who do realize they are a created being know not just a purpose, not just hope, but a definite reason for their lives. Not a secret higher mission, not an ultimate task they were set upon this earth to do better or faster or more famously than others, but a purpose that only takes their obeying to fulfill. Ecclesiastes points out that without the purpose of our creator--not of us, but our creator--, we are like dust in the wind, we come and we go with no one the wiser. The Gospels give us insight into that purpose that we only need to go along with, not think of by ourselves and not add to.

People who really want to live want to live now, on this earth. People who know why we were created AT ALL want to continue to live on earth in the eternity for which this earth was created. People who want all that understand that humans are not the masters nor guides of their ultimate destinies, but are relieved to know that, though they have been assigned work on the journey, they are just going along for the ride.

Sometimes none of us want to keep living, but there is always a reason to keep going. If nothing else to really annoy our enemies.

Ok all joking aside.

The happiness you are talking about does exist in this world. Unfortunately we are all so “programmed” by tv, movies, business, etc. that it is material things and money that bring happiness. However having money and material things is obviously not what makes a person happy. Consider how many people with money and fame have attempted to commit or have committed suicide over the years. Not to mention the even more staggering number that have had to go though drug rehab. We are taught that life is cheap and shallow. We are taught not to consider our friends. We are taught that one person can not make a difference. We are taught that all problems have to be solved in 30 minutes or we shouldn’t bother with them.

However what the world teaches us is not true, one person can make a difference that changes the world (not over night but it does happen over time.)

As for life being cheap I once read a poem about that:

-
Life is a Gem, some seem to be greater than others, but ALL are unique and have great value.

Sometimes in the darkness one can hear the calls of a better life; a chance to trade our gem for a better one.

But are the calls echoes of the Music from within the Gates of Heaven or the Moans of Tortured Souls?

Alas, one can never know for sure until one steps through the door. And after stepping through it is to late to turn back.

If life is a Gem, an item of great value. Why would anyone willingly trade a very valuable gem, no matter how bad it looks, for what could be nothing more than a worthless empty box?
--

I could keep going and tell you that happiness has to come from within and not from external sources. (Though it really does come from the soul).

While different people have different reasons to keep living if you really want a reason to live. Live to change the world around you into a better place.

For a moment, regardless of if you believe in a Creator or not. Let’s assume He is real and the story of Eden is real.

At one point we had a world that was in really good condition, no pollution, no water shortages, no food shortages, no health issues. However though our own free will we have messed it up to what we horrible mess we see today.
How many companies today will push a known hazardous product or dangerous chemical onto the market to make a few extra dollars? And how many of us sit back and allow the companies we work for to knowingly do things that are wrong or harmful or hurtful to others. We can’t blame God for that. What we have done and are doing is a matter of our own free will.

If you really want to know why some of us keep going, it is to help others, not with money, or things, but with our time and friendship. And in our own small way we try to move the world a little closer back to the Eden it once was. And the benefit that truly warms the soul, believe it or not, is the sincere smile we see from someone that simply needed someone to talk to or an extra hand moving some furniture into their apartment or when we sincerely ask someone how they are or … or …

May Our Creator bless and watch over you and your family.

People have various reasons for living. Some are scared of death, wary of what comes (or what doesn't come) afterwards. Some become absorbed by their daily lives and find happiness in it, through interactions with other people and things. Some find happiness in spirituality (which is separate from religion). Some feel like they should make the best of life because it's temporary and what comes after probably isn't the same. And some people just don't want to live.

There are many causes of death among adults: illness, accident, violence, suicide.... Not one of them is without pain. And often the fear of pain before death is what normal people fear the most. For those who are into spirituality, that and the fear of what comes after death; for Catholics, the fear of being consigned to the fires of Hell for eternity.

Life has more to offer than death, don't you think? And since no two days are exactly identical, there is always hope that one day might be better than the previous--or may be the day that you will find deliverance from your problem/pain/agony.

TJ, do you have an actual medical problem? If you do accept the help that medicine can give you. If not, I don't understand why you can't embrace life. It is wonderful. The world is an incredible place full of interesting people and things. Simple things like sunshine and apple pie. Try to learn to enjoy and appreciate the simple things. Life is full of small miracles and simple wonders.

ALL i CAN TELL IS THAT: IS NOT the people WANT to live,IS THE WILL OF NATURE WHO DESTINY THE PEOPLE TO BE BORN AND LIVE,WE CANNOT CHANGE OURSELVES AS WELL AS WE COULD NOT DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT WE SHOULD BE BORN.
