Personally I'd go with a quad because 6 months to a year from now games will be out that use quad threads and your friend isn't looking very far down the road althou the E6850, that isn't an Extreme and will NOT beat every quad out there like someone said, is a great gaming cpu. Contrary to what someone says 4GB of ram is not overkill in a Vista gaming rig even if its 32bit and, with your board that has the 975X chipset with memory mapping, you should see all 4096 of your ram in windows.
I suggest you use some Corsair XMS or Crucial Ballistix 800 ram as 667 isn't gonna cut it, especially with a cpu with a 1333 FSB like the E6850 and it appears that 800 is the fastest that board actually supports. I'd go with 64bit Vista. I have 64bit Ultimate in my Vista gaming rig. 64bit is more stable and over 10% faster than its 32bit Sibling. Nice build. It will rock.

Why the hell would you even ask that question? It clearly is a good computer and your probably paying an arm and a leg for it so of course it's going to play games. Do you really feel better about yourself showing off a computer that you probably won't even buy? Geeze, what a stupid question.
Oh, and I would recommend buying 3GB of DDR2 800 Mhz instead of the 667. Costs a little more but it's faster and the 32bit OS can only utilize a little over 3 gigs anyway. But since your not on a budget you might as well just get 4 gigs of 800 Mhz DDR2.

The E6850 Extreme is better than any Quad. Its waranty covers aftermarket overcloking!!!! It is also Suferfast!!!. Most games only utilize 1 core anyway so the 3.0Ghz clock per core will make a difference over the 2.4Ghz quad.
Your ram sux. Get DDR2 800Mhz or 1066 Mhz (800Mhz is gaming standard for a yewar now btw). Better yet get SLI Ram from OCZ/Corsair if your Mobo supports SLI RAM.
8800gt is a great choice.
Get X-Fi Gamer sound ~$100 or so over the Audigy series.
Get a 64-Bit OS or theres no point of 4GB of RAM (only 3.5GB can be addressed).

That's an envious rig! Overclock it some more and it should be awesome and unbeatable.
My few cents:
1. 4Gb RAM in 32bit OS is wasteful. About 750Mb will just sit useless in the memory hole. Personally I would go for 2Gb of ddr2-800 for better overclocking.
2. If you will overclock at above default Vcore, consider the Thermalright Ultra 90 or 120 Extreme.
3. For additional wow factor, consider this or something similar:

Yea sounds real good you should overclock the cpu to like 3.4-3.6 to get the best out of you system. Never used a quad but duos are sweet and fast. Also not vista dude, it is ok for small programs but when you run a high intensity program along side, vista make you crawl. It look sexy but it is not worth the soeed sacrafice. Get win xp pro sp2.

HOLY CRAP!!! OMG, that's insane! Hell yeah it's a great gaming system, but ditch the Vista. I don't support Windows, but XP Professional will be best for games.
