In days gone by, using motor oils in 2- stroke mixes was usual. But nowadays specialised 2- stroke oils are being marketed. One problem with engine oil is something you mentioned in the question. It is multigrade. That means it has greater viscosity (thickness) when cold, but gets lighter (thinner) when at 4- stroke operating temperatures. It will never get hot enough in a 2- stroke, so will always be too thick! These specialised oils are available for 2- strokes. Use them.
