This is more for those who know a bit about Navy Regulations. I have a friend who has been charged with article 134, if you don't know what that is right off the bat it's Adultry. We just found out that he's on the long road to mast, and he's on legal hold, and he was supposed to transfer this month off the boat he's on.
Now he's an EM2 in the Navy (Electrician's Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer) and he's been in the Navy almost 10 years and he's never had an offense on his record during his time in the military or before his time in the Navy. He's pleaded guilty to this, come clean and admitted it truthfully.
What is the worst that can come of this? I mean what kind of consequences is he looking at? How bad? Will it be pretty much a slap on the wrist since he's not done anything EVER in the past??? Will he be able to transfer soon? If anyone has ANY knowledge on something like this I would totally appreciate whatever light you can shed. What are we looking at? Thank you so much

If the charge was heard at Captain's Mast then the limit is one half months pay for two months, busted on stripe, restriction for 60 days, bread and water for a time limit (that I don't remember) etc. No brig time. No discharge if he has no prior masts.

If at court martial, up to and including jail time and dishonorable discharge.

Very likely a Bad Conduct Discharge. Anything less, and there will be a public perception that the Navy tolerates adultery. I don't see that happening.

I don't have an actual answer. I just want to point out that YA has a category called "Politics & Government -> Military". That category is probably read by more people with specific military knowledge than "Law & Ethics".
