Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide.

At normal atmospheric pressure, it sublimates instead of melting. This means it goes directly from solid to gas phase, without passing through the liquid phase.

It is frozen CO2, It's Lewis structure is: http://www.uwplatt.edu/~sundin/354-8/image/5409048f.gif

If you isolate yourself with the substance in above melting point temperatures the emitted gas can be harmful or even fatal. This is because your body needs Oxygen, and if CO2 is the primary gas you inhale, your body cannot get the Oxygen it needs.

It will burn skin upon contact because of the lack of heat.

Lastly, Dry ice's temperature is -109.3°F or -78.5°C.
