First off, try cutting your nails to a length where you won't hurt yourself.

Then, try and look around. Have you been stressed lately? Has this always happened to you? If you feel that you have undue pressures on you, try and simplify things to the point where they're manageable.

If this has been going on for a long time, you have many options. There are many psychological treatments that you could try - hypnosis, for example - though I doubt this is anything more than raised stress levels.

Good luck!

I wouldn't be surprised if you also clench you teeth. Think about it. Make an effort at the end of the day to find out if your jaws hurt or are tense. All that is signs of stress. Take time to relax and consciously un-clench your hands and teeth.

I do the same but to my nails and I only stop when I feel blood.
I do it because I'm nervous.
It's just a bad habit.
You'll stop....
