Go to a place/time in your life that you enjoyed the most. I go to my Grandmothers house. When I was a child I loved everything about her and just to be around her was therapy for me. I can even smell the sweet summer breeze softly blowing the aroma of honeysuckles through the wind while sitting on the day bed. wow!

I have several meditation CD's, both guided visualization and some just using state of the art soundwave technology called brainwave entrainment sounds to help relax the brain/mind a lot.
www.brainsync.com has many good ones to offer and if you go to the site you can listen to many while you are online
I have both the audible guided meditations and the soundwave only CD's.
I prefer the soundwave stuff myself
the prices are quite reasonable and good service too
one titled: Relax To The Max by Kelley Howell is excellent for the "get-away" you are asking about.
Good luck and don't forget to BREATHE .

Don't underestimate the power of aromatherapy! I have recomended www.buybellasoy.com to many people. The have soy candles and warmers in a huge variety of scents. If you don't like burning candles- they have warmers that take a normal lightbulb that just plugs into the wall. Buy a book on aromatherapy or look it up online. Different scents help you in different ways- make it into a hobby- that way you won't have time to think or worry about anything- you will be keeping busy learning about all these great scents!

I go to my room, outdoors with music, or get away from the normal surroundings and go to friends houses or around town window shopping. It's hard to get away mentally these days with all of life's demands on us but it sure does wonders for the soul and mind when you can manage to do it.

I park my car at the edge of a parking lot anywhere like the mall, supermarket etc. and read paper, do crossword puzzles, suduko, read mail, balance checkbook etc. Bring snacks and soda. And then I usually set the back of the seat down (have inflatable travel pillow in car) and take a short nap. I'm usually out already doing errands when I take these breaks.

I breathe
count for 4 seconds on inhale
4 seconds on exhale
and 4 seconds of holding of breath
repeat for about 20 minutes and focus on nothing but that.

I take my dog Barney to the local golf course. He has fun and exercise chasing the sliced shots and I have a tranquil view in a peaceful setting to mull over ideas and sift through problems.

I get in my car and drive off into the countryside, alone, with the music turned up loud. I will drive for hours, until I feel like I can face my annoying life again.

Sometimes I read, but what works best for me is just sitting down and burying my face in my dog's fur. It helps me forget everything for a little while. =)
Also, when I'm stressed out, I play piano. I don't really love praticing, but if I concentrate on perfecting a piece, I can block out everything else.
