And why does the middle of the country worry about our borders more than the states ON the border?

And why do people who live in a town where they've never met a gay guy really care whether gay folks get married?

1. midwesterners and southerners have never tolerated anyone but white people - so the idea of getting to hate foreigners is like Christmas for them. New Yorkers are used to being a great big melting pot of humanity - if they were as bigoted as the midwest/south, they would not have time to work.

2. I doubt you have any plausible facts to support this, as I live in California and I can tell you the TOP issue on our minds are the borders. Moreover, bad guys get in through the borders - but they don't stay there.

3. Religious right - they care about what YOU should not be doing. What they should not be doing is somehow not the point.

Just to address the first New Yorker know who the real enemy is and that would be Osama and his buddies so we are not impressed when we are told that some one else like the Iraqis who had nothing to do with the attack are the foes. Instead we are more then willing to fight and defeat the bas tard who really did attack us. In fact and meaning no disrespect to the US Army I would suggest that they pull our troop home from Afghanistan and allow the NYPD in to go get the SOB.

As to why we are less afraid the Midwestern and Southerns. Easy We are New Yorkers,. the toughest Muther ftruckers on the planet that's why

Dude do you know how many illegals there are in the Midwest, obviously not, try moving to Ligonier Indiana solidly Midwest and a freaking head count, you'll be amazed and most Midwesterners I know think the terror threat is highly over rated, they know they have a better chance of being struck by lightning than being victim of a terrorist attack, get your facts straight and lose the assumptions bubba, this from a solidly LIBERAL Midwesterner

Interesting, I live in a state on the boarder and we're very concerned about the border. As for a terrorist attack, not too worried about it. Nothing around me worth attacking and if they did I doubt anything would even show up on national news.

As for your last question, it's my contention that the people who don't know any gay guys are the main ones who are homophobic. They see overblown stuff on TV and listen to right-wing radio rants, so they think they know all these radical things about gay guys. If they lived in a city with an openly gay community, they would soon realize that gay guys are just like the rest of us.

Of course, they probably do know gay guys but just don't realize it because in their towns the gay guys stay in the closet.

Because after you have walked around in Manhattan at night you will have seen real tangible things to be fearful of. After viewing that, fearing unseen boogie men that maybe will or maybe will not attack is tantamount to fearing your own shadow or the wind during a storm.

Well there are some midwestern folks in places like Detroit and Chicago that don't give a damn about terrorist.

I live in the midwest and I'm not afraid of terrorists. I worry about our borders because I'm an American, and we do have gay people here. We're not afraid of much except losing our liberties.

Good points.

It is interesting that in Manhattan (where the WTC was), only 14% voted for Bush in 2004.

Obviously the people of NYC felt differently about Bush's terrorism figthing style than Kerry's and these are the people are on the front line in the war on terror
