what do people do on sabbatical leave?lecturers and other such professionals?

is it a boring time?

Usually, it's a related subject, but more as a hobby than work. Something like researching and writing a book on the subject of your work. I suppose you could just spend it sunning yourself on the Caribbean, but that's sort of cheating.

Usually they go to another work location to learn about the way they do things and see if they can learn anything from them.
