That does look nice indeed, ill just have to find one off ebuyer.com or microdirect.co.uk, and recommendations on a good psu that will fit a k7 amd 2800 motherboard?.

Ill probably go for the nvidia really because his current machine i think is a 9600 pro and 2gb ram 400watts roughly psu.

Any insight would be appreciated im alittle behind the times with the new tech.

The 7600GT AGP should be fine for your PC. It draws about 60 watts or 5 amps on the +12V rail. Old 400W PSU may just have a weak +12V single rail. Newer 400 watters have strong dual +12V rails. Get a 400W (dual rail) or bigger power supply. It should run cool all day long.

The best AGP cards would just get bottlenecked by that old K7 format (socket A). The X1950XT AGP draws about 120 watts or 10 amps on the +12V rail.

He will be very happy with this card, unless he already has a comparable card. It's a good card from a good maker. I personally wouldn't buy ATI cards, NVIDIA's software is much better in my opinion and experience. I own/use regularly more than one of each maker's cards and I consistently prefer the NVIDIA ones. The 7600 GT (not GS) is generally regarded as a steal for price vs. performance. You will also not need a new power supply for this card if you already have a 400 watter; it's specs call for 350watts minimum

you should take a look at the last set of AGP charts on the Tom's Hardware website,

http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/10/04/vga_charts_iv/page5.html

and compare those to the most recent charts

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

to see how the newest cards compare to the best older cards.
