After age 18 experience, exposure to carpentry by virtue of working with a master carpenter or good contractor is going to show all the different elements needed to become a carpenter.

Your generally have to be 18 before being accepted in the carpenter's union as an apprentice carpenter from there it is usually about four years of apprenticship school before you make carpenter.

We hire high school kids in the summers as carpenter's helpers that are 15/16/17. They get great experience and some of them wind up pursuing it as a career.

i started helping my dad as soon as i was old enough to know what was meant by "go get that and bring it over here"
around our house if something needed fixing we fixed it.
when i was a teen i did odd jobs for people. and have worked numerous jobs as carpenter or carpenters helper over the years. now I'm what some would call middle aged and I'm still doing odd projects for people occasionally

I don't believe age is an indicator of intelligence or maturity, but yes, being construction and there is a degree of hazardous work, in most places, the state requires people to be 18. If under 18, start by reading and asking questions, you will be ahead of your peers by 18.

I didn't know there was a minium age to start, most probably started around 3or 4 .A apprenticeship may require 18 yrs of age.
