Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.
Still going strong after nearly 40 years ~ happily married family man ~ and no controversies {except for the 'Roll Your Own' incident!}
And the same for the late Robert Palmer.

Hm. There are a lot, but the number one musician that I truly respect is Brian May.
Brian May was the lead guitarist for Queen and is now the lead guitarist for the band Queen + Paul Rodgers, and is still rocking out, even though he's 59! He built his own guitar, Red Special, when he was 16 with his dad, and is considered a virtuoso at playing. Experts say that you can tell it's Brian May playing from the first note! Brian May didn't just play guitar, he wrote songs and sang as well. He had the most beautiful voice I've ever heard and I can't get enough of it! He wrote a lot of hit songs, it was actually he who wrote the song We Will Rock You, arguably Queen's most popular song. He also wrote amazing songs such as Who Wants To Live Forever?, Headlong, Hammer to Fall, Fat Bottomed Girls and Good Company. Brian sang lead vocals on Who Wants To Live Forever, '39, Leaving Home Ain't Easy and Good Company.
Brian May was number 39 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 best guitarists of all time.
Brian May was totally against smoking and is also a vegetarian. Also, he's really smart! He was studying AStrophysics when he joined Queen, and paused his studies to focus on the music. He kept going after the band broke up though. Recently he received his Phd and also was given the job of High Chancellor at Liverpool John Moore's University.
On his website, he talks about Astrophysics a lot, and I usually have no idea what he's talking about!!!
Brian is really into animal rights. He has posted a lot of things about saving the whales, unnecessary fishing, and experimenting on animals, he keeps providing links to petitions and other ways to help. Brian May is really classy and never lowered himself to the depths that many other people did. In one of his songs, he used the word 's.hit', and nobody who knew him believed that he wrote the song because of that word. I guess he doesn't swear, which I like. He always manages to write some of the most powerful lyrics I've ever heard, without swearing or using crude language. He never lost himself to drugs, and managed to maintain his charisma no matter what. He was sensible, yet knew how to have fun. People always say that he sounds like a boring "rock star", but the thing is, just watch any concert, he can rock out! He knows how to have fun!
Also, he's done solo work as well. And that's also fabulous. Conclusion: Brian May doesn't need Queen to rock, but together, they're just a super-band!
Brian May is so nice to his fans, also! He always has something nice to say, and I've seen thousands of photos of him with his fans, usually with them grinning like idiots (not that I blame them!). On his website, he has a letters page, that HE HIMSELF updates, and responds to peoples emails to him. He seems like such a nice guy! The meanest thing I've ever heard him say was 'if he were someone who gave a ****!', about Roger Taylor, and thats not even very mean! Brian actually felt bad singing the song 'Death On Two Legs' because it's so mean, and the songs about a manager who pretty much screwed Queen over and wouldn't give them any money! Yet Brian still felt bad!
Besides, he has an AMAZING accent, crazy hair that is kind of awesome, and he was sooo cute when he was younger!!!

I hope it doesn't have to be a Rock musician just because this ?s in the Rock section- I really respect Stevie Wonder!
The man really knows what's going on today. He sings about love, and crime, and stupid people that need to get out of office, ect. I really love every last one of his songs!

Todd Rundgren. He's so versatile. He has made prog rock albums(TR's Utopia, Initiation), pop albums(Something/Anything), solo albums where he has played every instrument(Hermit of Mink Hollow, Healing), played with groups (Utopia, the New Cars, Ringo Starr), produced (Meatloaf, Badfinger, Grand Funk, New York Dolls....). Computer wizard. I have seen him live dozens of times and he's a great guitar player, has a great voice, great personality.

I always really respected Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick for the fact that he could play so well while always clowning around. As long as he's been around he has managed to also keep himself out of trouble.

Matt Pike (Sleep and High On Fire) for staying true to his art and his views
John Bush (former Anthrax) for keeping a level head and not sh!t talking the people who stabbed in the back- he just bowed out (of Anthrax) gracefully and moved on.
Dimebag Darrell. For being an amazing musician who never let it go to his head, and for being an all around good guy. He was generous to his fans (buying guitars for kids who couldn't afford them).
I used to strongly dislike Zakk Wylde- for being a sh!thead. But he redeemed himself by working hard to raise money to help animals in need. That changed my view of him.
