I'm using a new 4 gig flash drive to backup jpeg files between two computers. The amount of data I'm loading onto the drive is always about 250mb. When using my home comp it only takes 4-5 minutes to copy/paste the files onto the flash drive, but the much more powerful work comp takes at least 2 hours to do the same thing. Both are using usb. Any ideas why?

Which version of USB drivers are involved? Older drivers will often cause slow-downs.

Also, do your work computers have extra security when compared against your home machine? Like, does your work system consider a USB drive as a "foreign" device such that it scans files on every movement of data? That would add some time.

Some flash drives include software that assists you in moving data. Your work system might have difficulties in running that program, depending on Windows versions.

Right click removable drive and select and format the drive. Then scan and fixes all errors. So all the bad sectors are fixed and my drive has become all new and is working well now It will delete all the data from your USB drive and make it fresh and hopefully remove all errors. The software for formatting comes on the CD or available on support sites for your branded usb drive on the net. For some reason, when I ran this formatting software, it would say the USB drive is not connected.
