Ok OSU fans...bet your suprised to hear this from me..your sworn enemy. Throughout this whole season I was in shock at just how weak OSU non-conf schedule was. Then I did some research....Did you know that USC has refused to accept offers to play Boise State and Hawaii for 4 straight years. They dropped fresno State from consideration after narrowly escaping that game a few years back.
Texas also refused to play Boise State and Mississipi State. Im sure the list goes on and on in regards to major powerhouses dodging dangerous games.

Having said that, do you really think that you could pick another team over OSU for the NC game?

There are better teams then OSU this year, however weak schedule or not they won when other teams lost to weaker opponents.

Also I would like to remind people that OSU did play Texas in home and home series. Starting Next year they will be playing USC, VT and Miami in Home and Home series.

I'm an LSU fan and I feel the SEC is usually the stronger conference and before I get all these negative votes why don't those people complain to ESPN and all the other sports analyst who feel the same way. It's not just me get it!
The SEC (generally speaking) has always played a soft non-conference schedule because the defensive play in the SEC is such that you need breathers to heal your wounds. Look at LSU and the injuries they have had this year and you can go down each team in the SEC and I'm sure you will find similar stories.
However, it is refreshing to see an LSU swap home and away games with VA Tech. I would like to see more but you cannot load up your schedule and then expect to be successful in your conference. I am sure this is true with other conferences as well.
There are only two problems I have with OSU. One, their conference does not have 12 teams and a championship game and secondly, I mean there are soft schedules but they never had to play a Top 20 team. True Illinois broke into the BCS rankings but only by beating OSU. That's the difference to me.
As far as the other teams, USC and Georgia are running on all eight cylinders right now and would have done well in a championship game.

I have been saying this all year long... Look at the powerhouse line up the "mighty bayou tigers" have had to worry about...
Tulane, Middle Tennessee and La Tech...
I would take Akron, Kent St and Youngstown St in a 9 game round robin 3v3 tournament over those 3 anyday...
Look at the rest of the SEC same type of teams.
Big 12? with the exception of Mizzou who played 2 bcs teams ooc ( Illinois and Mississippi) same thing...
Only fans (of which i am not one) that have any thing to complain about the BCS pics is the Mizzou fans, they played 4 games against the 10 teams that made it (oklahoma *2, Kansas and Illinois) beat 2 of teams (Kansas, Illinois), only losses all year were to the 3rd team (Oklahoma *2) and they didn't get in...
SEC has for years turned down home/home series offers from Big 10 teams..

andrew - OSU played 7 bowl eligible teams, + a Div1AA with a bowl eligible record, possible playoff team

lsutigers- I will give you Va Tech is better than Washington,, but noone could have guessed that when those games were scheduled, or even when they were played. What is usually brought up is the midmajors why not BCS conference,, my point is everyone plays similar breakdowns on that...Mizzou being the exception that played 2, and a few others, but Mizzou only one of top 10 that i know of...
Your little sos stats are based on the same flawed system that put OSU on top to begin with. in the Top 30 comparisons,,, there is same pct.

Big schools have nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing top level non-conference schedules. We (wisconsin) were to play a home n away series with Va Tech, and VT keeps backing out. If you lose one game you might be out of the BCS picture. So until things change look for more of the same... weak non conf. games.

This is something I dont get also. Kansas, USC, and Hawaii all have pathetic schedules, and yet OSu is the one getting the most attention. It is because they are #1 and going to the BCS bowl. If Kansas or Hawaii got into the BCS bowl, they would have had the same treatment.

Yes OSU is to blame for their scheduling
As for USC they accept toughh games (always have)
Scheduling and agreeing where games should be(and payouts) affect schedule considerations
Ohio State played the weakest schedule of any top contender
KU's schedule was 10x tougher because they played big 12 teams(which are much stronger then Big 10 teams)
Ku played 5 bowl eligible teams including Missouri on a neutral field

Hey guns you should check out Strength of Schedule rankings.

OSU rank 60 2-1 vs the top 30

LSU rank 21 2-0 vs the top 10, and 4-2 vs the top 30

You should do your homework before you start running your mouth....

and we did play Virginia Tech

Kansas was beaten by a team that ended up no.1...
Sounds like a easy conference with Mizzou and Oklahoma and Texas and...

Yes, I could easily pick other teams over OSU and sleep well at night...I'd pick two teams that at least BEAT top 10 teams!

OSU hasn't beaten ANYONE in the Top 20 this year...how do they rate?

2007-12-03 08:57:15 · answer #9 · answered by RacerX 4 · 1 1

yes i could. that team would be uga. they won six straight and unlike Lsu, they didn't lose their last home to and unranked team. osu runs roughshod over the bg ten evry year with competition from a decent michigan team. they should not be there. number three moves to one but number four, falls to umber five as less talented teams in softer conference win out. it's not fair.
