A security system consists of 3 parts: Anti-virus, Anti-spyware & a firewall.

After extensively researching all anti-virus products I can say the best anti-virus is Kaspersky, though NOD32 is better for computer experts. Kaspersky is the best all-round anti-virus program. NOD32 runs faster and has less software conflicts but as a consequence the user interface is difficult to use.

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.

It has been proven ESET NOD32 and Kaspersky are better than the best sellers Norton and McAfee (see the consumersearch source for reviews of the top anti-virus products). NOD32 is the "Best anti-virus product of 2006" -Av Compartives.

Trend Micro Antivirus is a viable alternative if you're having a lot of trouble with software conflicts. Trend Micro rounds out the top three.

You will also need anti-spyware and I would recommend getting Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy (they are free).

As for your firewall, the built-in firewall in Windows is sufficient but if you want a free firewall, Comodo personal is excellent.

Absolutely, Kapersky Labs products are top-notch. I used the "Defender Pro" series myself.

HOWEVER,... there is this to consider. Despite what everyone (including me) has said, the best security system isn't "Kapersky" or "NOD32" or "Norton" or .... It is the one that you will USE. If you get one and don't implement it, you might as well have bought something cheaper and saved money.

Hints for setting up anything that includes a firewall: If you are on a machine that already has a firewall (such as a WinXP system after Service Pack 2), TURN OFF THE FIREWALL FIRST! Dueling firewalls will eat your socks every time. Turn off other A/V packages if you have them. You can't remove the built-ins from Windows, but you can at least disable the services. If you have dueling A/V packages, your machine will run dog-slow.

sorry to say its all junk I have been trough it all many times over the only way is stay off the net, buy a mac, or switch to linux. those are truly your only options unless you like buying new computers every year or paying some high priced nerd to fix your stuff all the time. the simple truth is the averag home user cant keep there box clean even with the best stuff its hard, its time consuming, and it comes right back. this is why all my boxes run linux now its free and secure and I spend most of my free time on the net

*Never install more than one anti virus, as they may conflict with each other. On the other hand, is always good to use more than one anti spyware.

Are you aware that the central office for Kaspersky is in Russia? How do YOU know what they are doing with your computer?

Kaspersky is probably the most user friendly and effective. It has anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam email checker. Not bad pricing for what it does...
