Why do people vote Republican? Because they are rich and want to get richer. They use morality issues to sucker people into their party who will not benefit from their policies. They definitely aren't ignorant, and I wouldn't call almost half of the country evil. But they are selfish. If what you mean by progression is moving toward a more egalitarian society, they're going to be against it because they don't want to lose their money/power.

1. The idea that our government isn't supposed to carry its citizens from cradle to grave because a. We can't afford it anymore and b. People should work hard to support themselves through hard work.
2. The biggest issue right now, is to ensure the Federal Government doesn't gain ANY more power over us, or the rest of the world.
3. Most republicans today are just as ignorant as liberal democrats (see my choice in candidate for more explanation)
4. I fear what the democrats call progression, especially right now, because the programs they have proposed to people (for votes) are too expensive, and will cause me more taxes that I don't think the government has the right to do (and they don't)
5. I don't remember your last question, sorry
I think both parties have lost their way, but I never thought the democrats have ever had a way that would be successful in the long term. The only person I'm voting for, is one that is being ignored in a sick and unethical way.... Ron Paul!!
He's a Republican and he's got the best mindset of the actual state of our union. The Republicans and Democrats have hi-jacked our government through the means of the Media, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Patriot Act, and other means.
Today's politicians have become corrupt with their moral guidelines, and have thrown us under the bus. They refuse to leave Iraq, even though a majority of the country doesn't feel comfortable with us being there anymore. They don't care that our dollar has gone to sh!t, or that inflation is bad.
I don't see any sense of urgency from anyone about our shaky economy, and I'd rather talk about that, than discuss how to make Universal Health Care work.... It's a failed policy from the get-go, just like Social Security.
What set me off?? When Congress gave Homeland Security the power to enact the REAL I.D. .... something that reminds me a LOT of Nazi Germany, although they would never call it that, and call me a Nazi myself for having a suspicion like that. .... We've been lied to enough, and I'm not a person who likes to get fooled more than once.
Point of this answer.... We're all worked up about the same-old-issues.... "are you a democrat or a republican"... but I don't think either of these parties are really FOR any of us... and more just trying to control our future foreign policy (god help us what that entails). You should really check out the CFR, and question just WHY all of the Media's Chosen One's are on this... and look at some of the quotes that people from history have warned about his group.
We've got to remember America, the *Constitution*, Freedom, and Prosperity before we get worked up on privileges like Health Care.
Ron Paul deals with all the issues I might have discussed here, as WELL as many more equally-important issues.
Vote for WE the PEOPLE... not WE the CONSUMERS!!
Vote Ron Paul... let's get America Back!!!! (P.S. He HATES Neo-Cons like Bush, Hillary, and the rest of the CFR Front Runners)

In the other asked:
1. Traditional family values, more than anything else. Law and order are big issues, as well, as is a strong national defense and fiscal responsibility. Personal responsibility is also important.
2. See #1.
3. Not at all. People who vote Republican are just as informed and good as those who vote Democratic. They just have different values.
4. Because the term has been corrupted. True progession is the advancement of technology and society through natural evolution, rather than social engineering.

a. Today's Republican leaders have NO morals; people vote Republican on the "morals" issue either because they are prejudiced (gay rights), or easily duped (abortion . . . as if the GOP has actually done anything about abortion or as if it's the government's job to regulate something that's between a woman, her family and her God). "Family values" is another joke Republican morals issue. Consider the damage done to families -- American and Iraqi -- by the illegal invasion of Iraq, for example!
b. They have no concept of real issues and how much damage this Republican administration has done -- America's reputation, the sinking dollar, our multi-trillion dollar debt, the fact that the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer, climate change and the environment (God's earth). Etc.
c. Generally one or the other -- either they are evil in the sense that Bush-Cheney are -- treasonous anti-American, anti-people, anti-God war criminals . . . or they are simply easily duped by outrageous liars (see a. for example).
d. People don't fear progress; they fear the unknown, not realizing that no matter how they vote, tomorrow is the unknown for each of us. Deal with it!

I wish people from both sides would stick to the question and forget the insults. Anyway, from what I have learned in life, people vote Republican for two reasons. They have been convinced that they are the more moral of the two parties and that social programs are useless and more importantly, cost them money. True or false, right or wrong.

1 ) God First Country second.
2) Less Government, lower taxes, personal accountability. To provide for our families first, and for those unable, not unwilling to help themselves next.
3) That is some judgment call, because someone who disagrees with you , that makes them evil or ignorant. By making such a statement you point out your own ignorance. Because we believe in personal responsibility we beleive that we make better decisions about how our money should be used, far better than any government ever could.
4) That would depend on your definition of progress. We beleive in right and wrong. And just because you have decided that certain things are no longer wrong, doesn't mean you are correct in your assumption. We still look to the Bible to help us define our morals. But that doesn't mean we fight progress, it means we fight for what we beleive is right.

Republicans are conservative and tend to stick to the way things used to be. America has been a leading world power for a century, why would you change a thing now? maintaing a sense of morals compared to the predominantly amoral democrats.
Republicans focus more on tax cuts because the gov't has proven itself to be irresponible with money and that people can make better investments on their own. They like to keep a strong military for protection and diplomatic purposes. They recognize that people would like to do america harm.
Republicans aren't either and I thinnk this question is biased.
Progression is new. If there is another tried and true method then do that. also, change is scary.

I do not fear progression.
-> I fear an out-of-control government.
-> I fear a government that believes it knows what is 'best' for its citizens.
-> I fear the dumbing down of the U.S. voter.
-> I fear a majority ruled tyranny.
-> I fear a 100% tax on my labor.
-> I fear the decay of individual liberties.
