I agree, I'm sick of explaining this to people.
It isn't a choice! I knew very young that I was bi, all my life it's been a part of me. I fell in love with my girlfriend three years ago and it wasn't just like "oh hey, I feel like liking a chick today.. hey, you'll do!" I met her, befriended her, and we fell in love. No choice. Just fate.
Ridiculous that some people just can't accept/understand that. And to the guy who said it's a choice.. if it's a choice, for ONE DAY choose to like men. Go out and check out guys all day and tell me you were honestly sexually attracted. If you can do that, then I will surely believe you.

I think the Catholic Catechism says it pretty well from the Catholic point of view Paragraph Number 2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. ##This first part people remember, but often I find that ##many people don't know or follow the rest of ## paragraph 2358. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. ## While I know that we might disagree on SOME things ## that are or are not UNJUST discrimination, we can ## agree on a lot of things. We shouldn't attack/insult ## We shouldn't come to funerals of gays protesting ## and saying that "God hates fags" or something like ## that. We will disagree on whether marriage (or not being ## allowed) and similar things is a unjust discrimination These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition. Paragraph 2359 ## We would probably disagree with this. If you don't ## share my religious views, especially on gay/les ## than of course you would disagree here. Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection. Paragraph 2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices So do I think it's a choice? eeeeehh no. Somewhat. But I think some people are affected by culture and things they are around and that could have an impact. I would really like to see some serious scientific studies on this, but often these are blocked by the gay community, fearing that people would then claim that homosexuality is a 'disorder' or whatever. What if they found out it could be treated and someone who wanted to be a different sexuality could be changed with some sort of treatment? Some believe this would get it labeled as a problem and oppose this investigation at all costs. I think it would also allow them to prove that it is not a choice.

Some people still thinking it's a choice. The truth is that being gay depends of what each person prefers, what they like. For example (I am straight) I like tall men, with blue eyes, who don't drink, who are very smart, that are funny, etc. I like men but that doesn't mean that like all men, everyone likes different things (not all gay men see every single men attractive). Just notice that people you like tend to have similarities.
You don't fall in love just because you want to fall in love with that particular person. When you fall in love is because this person has things that you consider attractive (eye color, attitudes, profession, etc) and personally I believe that we don't choose what we like about people.

I think maybe because they cannot be permissive enough to live and let live and feel threatened and want to contain that threat. Also they want to keep to the notion that the bible, a bigger authority, says it is wrong and that conflicts with the idea of being natural as god made us.
In the 60's political lesbianism was fought for as a pro-female choice
I have friends who are gay for both reasons above - and it isn't my business to presume anything at all, until I am told or not.
Just as I retain the right to define my own sexuality.

All our behaviors are either coerced or our choice. You can be forcibly raped, but other than that, any sexual behavior you engage in is your choice. How you feel is not your choice, in any one moment, but you can shape how you feel by your behaviors over time. Some ways that you feel, including some profound things like your sexuality, may be determined for you by the actions of others when you are too young to even know what's going on, such as during early attachment years. Thus those things may no longer be YOUR choice, in any practical sense, though rarely deep psychological damage can be repaired which may have a ripple effect on a number of surface behaviors, including sexuality.
I'd be careful of the lure of convenience in attributing things to "not my choice". It's seductive, but the implications are awful. Think it through.

because sometimes it is! Now granted, I do believe some people are born gay.. you can just tell when they are young. But I've met people who have become gay due to life experiences as well.
Either way, I have nothing against them.

being gay is a choice. you have to choose whether you like males or females or even both. in the end your still making a decision which results in you making a choice.
if you fall in love with the same sex, you chose to fall in love unless you were forced to beyond your own will.

I am straight.
I can't help it, I find women attractive!
So, I figure it must be the same for gays.
