Both elected
Both serve as chief executive for the government
Both are highly visible so they get a lot of blame and credit in public opinion for whatever is happening.
Both have to work with the legislatures to get their agenda in place.
Both appoint judges and their own advisers.

President is responsible for foreign policy while governor generally has Little involvement in the world outside his state.
President commands the world's most powerful military while governor has very little military power or resources.
